hi all.started to strip me engine as piston rings knackered a few weeks back.im changing the piston and head but whilst im at it thought i might as well change the bottom end.im gonna be honest when i say i have never split a 2 stroke before.but i simply cant afford to pay someone.anyways got the side casing off which im pretty sure is the clutch side, and i have noticed a dint on the top.(ill add a piccy)is this ment to be there?.also i have seen a bolt just under the clutch which i need to take out to split the engine.does anyone know, before i attempt, does the clutch need to be taken off to get this bolt off???please no nasty comments about me not attempting it.there is no other way.and everyone starts somewhere Very Happy any help will be brill.cheers

Hi

If it is a 122 engine I think the clutch basket comes out easily.

Think you will need to remove it all to split the cases.

Do you have the necessary pullers to put the crankcases back together?

All the best

Keith

Yes, it definitely needs removing to split the case... I'm doing mine at the moment..
You'll need a puller for the flywheel (I made one for mine!!) You'll probably find that the crank will stay attached to one side of the case. I made a puller to remove that too, although I don't know how easy it's going to be getting it back in again... Confused

Problem is that the bodge way to do this is to press the cases together over the crank. Which puts a side load on the main bearings and they will fail after a short while.

A puller is used to pull the crank into the crankcase half .

All the best

Quite a bit. Plenty is shared but plenty of differences (front engine mount is different, 122 has no tacho drive, totally different ignition system, barrel mounts are slightly different).

All the best
