So, I've been a member on here for a few months and never actually posted before. Been riding 6 years or so. Passed my test in '05 and bought a Harley Sportster 883. Got scared of the repair bill should I slow speed spill so sold it and bought a Teapot in 2008.
It's a 2001 51 plate Suzuki GSX750F.
Had it for about three and a half years, off the road for three due to various reasons one of which was I had no V5C for it (bought without - DUMB MOVE!). Back in April I decided to put it on the road, cleaned the carbs, changed the battery and she ran a treat.

So, to the V5C problem. As I said I had bought the bike without V5C via eBay, the seller saying he was a trader and gave me a full receipt with his name address and phone number on it.
I sent the paperwork of mid-April, expecting a fairly quick response along the lines of "pay us a grand" and you can have the V5C. As I write it's 05 July and on Thursday I have to get the bike to Portsmouth DVLA office to get it inspected.
Apparently the Chassis number I provided isn't what they have for the reg number. Worse, the chassis number matches another bike with a different registration. I have looked at the chassis number and plate few times and from what I can see they don't appear to have been tampered with and look original. The Reg plate has the dealer's details on it too.
Anyone know what I can expect from the inspection and how quickly after I will be able to get a decision?
Thanks for reading, any derision for my choice of bike will slide lightly off shoulders as I know how loved they are and I have big shoulders! |

to be honest could go either way they will inspect your bike and tell the corect details from the vin, you have the receipt so liability probably would not land with you but the dealer if anything is wrong.
if nothing is wrong they will issue you your v5 etc with the correct details (at a cost) and you will be soon on the road
unfortunatly if the bike is found to be stollen even though liability will not be with you, you will almost cirtainly loose the bike,
i had a friend who had his bike taken for a similar reason and he was told he could have been done for handling stollen goods, he got in touch with his soliceter who said it was very unlikely, as with you he had recipt of perchace and even managed to do a deal with the insurance company who paid out for the bike as they become the leagal owners.....
good luck and keep us informed ____________________ "WHAT DO YOU MEAN 100 MPH THATS IMPOSSIBLE Its chinese OFFICER."

I don't know what the newer GSXfs are like, but my older one wasn't very nice to ride. big, heavy and slow.
Enjoy
Hope you got the V5 issue sorted... lesson learned though - right? don't buy bikes without V5s.
