multimetre help

hi all.just bought this off flee bay as alot of people on here advise to get one.the only thing is how the bloody hell do you use em??if someone could just tell me what setting it needs to be on for 12v and what to expect from certain wires?

All comes down to what your checking for. For voltage you need to turn to the 20v bit, third one turning the dial counter clockwise or about 10 o'clock.

The other useful one is the red bit at roughly 5 o'clock on the dial,looks like a speaker?, that's continuity, it's useful for checking for breaks in the wire.

Finally, the green bit between 6 and 9 o'clock is resistance, useful for checking coils and plug leads.

You need the black lead in the socket marked com and the red in the one marked v (ohm sign) mamp for most work.

Read the instructions it says it comes with before you try to use it. It's not marked/set out very good, as said DC voltage is the white area 10 o'clock ish that you use for any voltage checks from the reg/rec- battery onwards but you do use AC voltage as well to get the output from the alternator/stator to the reg/rec that is the white area at 1 o'clock, you want the 200v setting for that.
