Hi,

I have a question about the air filter.

I want to change the air filter as part of maintenance, but speaking with a bike mechanic today. He said the "engine management light" would probably come on and you wouldnt be able to turn it off..

So if I change the air filter does the light come on ? and if so how do I turn it off.. He said the only way is to take it to triumph for them to turn it off. But they would only do this after completing the work..

I also want to adjust the valves on the bike but again he reckons the engine management light would come on with no way of turning it off..

Said I would need special software to turn it off.. Im confused now about how to proceed as ive already spent £40 on the air filter.

anybody got any suggestions ?

Tell him to fuck off, do the servicing.

EM light will come on if there is an issue.

Are you sure about that Laughing He doesn't appear to know much.

It is VERY doubtful the Management light will come on when you change the Air Filter, unless you disconnect the battery it won't come on AFAIK

Even IF it does it will turn off after 3 heat cycles.

1 heat cycle = starting bike from cold, getting temp up to about 70 degrees I think, then turning it off.

I wouldn't listen to the bloke and I certainly wouldn't take my bikes to him.

I really wanted to do the valve adjusting.. & air filter change. I've got a haynes manual & even took off the fairing on the bike to make a start but it looks mega complicated..

I've adjusted the valves on a GS500 before, which was pretty easy, but the engine was easy to get at.. Looking at the daytona engine with all those tubes and what not, scared the hell out of me..

Dunno what to do.

Label them and take photos. Or take it to a mechanic (not one one you mention previously however) Laughing

I can do a 'Quick re-set' on my management light on the Daytona 650...

Warm it up to about 80°C
Turn it off and count to 5
Turn it back on and let the dash go through it's routine and the fuel pump prime, count to 5
Repeat 3 times
Start it up and admire the management light telling you all is well Thumbs Up

When the dash starts up it shows the coolant temp as 'LO' then shows the proper temperature... as far as the ECU is concerned that is a heat cycle Mr. Green

If it does come up with an engine management light, with a £10 cable from ebay, a bit of setting up drivers and Tune ECU from www.tuneecu.com, you can see what exactly the error code is and clear all codes from the memory.

Before I do go ahead and have a bash at it.. Is there anything that I should either a) DO - in order to avoid potential problems or b) something I should avoid doing ?

Like disconnect battery or not.. etc

Im going to have a good old read of my haynes manual before I start.. and label every tube & cable. I wonder if theres a wipe clean white magic marker I could use to label every cable and every connection on the engine where it goes.

DW about the engine warning light, or removing the battery reseting it is easy, TBH I've never bother labelling anything and alway been fine you can usually work out where everything goes based on the shape of the pipe and size of the connector etc. If I was going to label them I would use making tape and a biro.

He's talking nonsense, the Fuel Injection on a 955i isn't that advanced.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.
