Hi all,

Got this nice new winter bike and just thought i'd share...

The difference is yours doesnt have the ghey 46 stickers Laughing

How did the rear wheel end up like that? The rest of the bike doesn't look overly crash damaged.

Don't worry no number 46 or monster stickers will be fitted Thumbs Up

There is alot more damage than the pictures make out. I will try and get some better pictures today. The guy crashed it, it span around 180 degrees and parked itself in a wall. Swingarm is banana shape too!

Here are some more pictures as promised. It's pretty rough...

https://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/s720x720/375211_10151025712275497_784455496_22195908_98431674_n.jpg

https://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/s720x720/393659_10151025714245497_784455496_22195910_1605649122_n.jpg

It's got an alarm though!

https://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/s720x720/379417_10151025719530497_784455496_22195923_1934180420_n.jpg

Today I got the wheel out of the swingarm. The wheel spindle was so banana'd that I had to cut through one leg of the swingarm to even get anything to move. Once off though I stripped the wheel's sprocket and brake disc and salvaged any bushings from the swingarm shock mount.

I then put all the bits onto the new subframe... much better

https://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/s720x720/384272_10151025735230497_784455496_22195961_634708608_n.jpg

Also I manage to fix the broken rear wheel. It's amazing what you can do with a bit of T cut...

https://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/s720x720/383733_10151025729445497_784455496_22195950_657340960_n.jpg

Umm...

That's all for today. Waiting for some bits to turn up in the next few days.

Cheers all,

Damon

Cheers,

Bought some more bits for the bike including an upgraded adjustable rear shock Thumbs Up I hope it fits...

Fitted new bearings to the swingarm and the rear wheel today. Also started stripping the rest of the bike down for cleaning and servicing. I'm just waiting for the rear wheel spindle to arrive and it'll be time to start building it back up.

£15 chain adjusters
£35 adjustable shock

Spent some more time on it today changing the plugs and flushing out the carbs. The brown coloured gloop that came out of each float bowl doesn't fill with me hope when it comes to starting it. I will give the carbs a proper clean and overhaul as soon as I can get the thing on 2 wheels. Also cleaned the shock mounts and the rear of the bike. It's gleaming now! Thank god for Lidl engine cleaner.

As you can see the spark plugs hadn't be changed in a while...

Does anyone know where to get thrust washers for the swingarm? Yamaha Europe are closed until the new year and I want to get the bike put together. Once I can get a pair of the washers (cup type things that sit over the swingarm bearings) i'll be much closer to winning!

Saying that, I'm still waiting for the new rear shock to arrive along with the new rear spindle. I got another set of chain adjusters from a FZR 3HE, They are identicle apart from the spindle hole being too small. A 20mm drill bit for the press will sort that out no problem.

Cost so far:

£60 van rent plus fuel to pick the van up
£101 bearings, service kit (plugs, oil, spindles etc)
£30 brake/clutch levers (shortys) Cancelled order as they have no stock.
£15 chain adjusters
£15 second set chain adjusters
£8 20mm drill bit
£35 adjustable shock

Thanks all,

Damon

EDIT:

Managed to track the shock to my local post office. Will pick it up tomorrow.

Also bought some Thrust washers off a RD350. Apparently they are the same so we will see... At £7 for a pair its worth a gamble to get the build moving

After about 30mins queuing up in the cold at the local delivery office I was told I was at the wrong place and that "over the road" is where I needed to be Rolling Eyes So off I pop to the other post office to be told once again I was in the wrong place. Laughing After calling over the manager however a package with my name on it suddenly appeared...

Here is the old shock next to the new adjustable shock. I'm hoping it should give a slightly better setup at the rear of the bike.

https://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/390508_10151092747290497_784455496_22431051_1268244663_n.jpg

And here it is test fitted to the bike. Once the swingarm thrust washers arrive it's pretty much all go to get the bike together.

Been busy today working on the FZR. It now sits on BOTH of its wheels Very Happy The shock feels nice and plush too. It's been a long time since I've had a bike where the seat hasn't been a piece of back protector foam or a thin motox unit. Rolling Eyes

All 3 brake calipers are completely solid so that is the next thing to tackle on the list. Managed to get a set of EBC pads for the rear for free so that has helped with the build price a tad.

Here she is with the exhaust fitted
