I bought a van a couple of weeks ago and every time i drive it I get a runny nose and sore watering eyes.

It's clean, no hair, no leaking back door seals etc
I have a dog so unlikely an allergy of previously carried animals type thing.

I'll go get a pollen filter tomorrow but any other suggestions?

I got home a couple of hours ago and still the same, it'll get better by tomorrow but start again when I drive it.

I'm not sure if your van will have air-con but if it does, that can make you ill if it's not been serviced for a while.

Might be mould spores, if it's been unused for a while and got damp - could be in the seat fabric or carpet.

It's rubber matting, been valeted before i got it but i'll spray some of that detol stuff in there and then wet clean the seats and change the pollen filter.

No air con

I need to sort it as i'm likely to be doing some serious miles in it.

It is possible to DEVELOP an allergy by being exposed to allergens, even though you were not allergic to them before.

Go get yourself skin prick tested, it only takes half an hour.

The standard panel of allergens is a dozen "ordinary" things: grasses, trees, dog, cat, horse, moulds, etc. If something shows up or is questionable, they can do a blood test to clarify what else it might be.

Good call, or even in the air con/airfilter. Get a good anti microbial spray and douse the interior.

have a look for a anti microbail spray called 429 or 429+

We use it at work.

This ^ - mould spores from the air inlet filters - can't see that spraying more chemicals about is the first thing to do.
You could test to some extent by shutting all vents and opening window a bit instead.

Badly serviced air conditioning can lead to legionnaires disease which manifests symptoms similar to flu

Lots of vans have pollen filter things that get pretty nasty if they aren't changed. Another option is cleaning products that might have been used before you bought it.

My vote from the symptoms is exhaust fumes getting in the cab.

Do you feel tired or have headaches? If your face is flushed? These are some signs of carbon monoxide entering the cab

Is it a diesel? Have you or a previous owner run it on veg oil? I had a diesel Galaxy and used to run it on 50/50 but had to give it up because I have a slight nut allergy and as the oil is in part nut oil I found that I reacted to the very small amounts of exhaust that must have found it's way inside the cabin.

So, I've replaced the pollen filter, sprayed detol anti bacterial into the intake with fan on full, coated the whole inside of the van, seats, dash, carpets and inside the back with the detol, left it overnight and wet cleaned the seats and carpets and wiped down the rest of the surfaces.

Done 150 miles in it today and no problems.

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Oh, I changed the wheels as well so it could even have been that.

looking at the pollen filter I'd say it was that.

The rest was possibly overkill but didn't want to risk feeling like crap when driving it silly mileages
