Hi two weeks ago i found my left fork leaking and had the seal changed at a garage for the sum of £80,

I get home tonight to find the right seal is now leaking (typical)

I'd like to take the fork off and take it to the garage to save some cash,

Can someone give me a quick step by step of how to remove the fork

Bike is a GSX650F K9

Many thank's Reg

A garage that only changes a single fork seal at a time?

Jeeze i'd steer clear of that place in future haha

Swapping the fork's over did make me wonder if that could be done.

No they didn't mention about doing both, and it didn't occur to me to get both done i just thought it would only be the one that would need doin.

Finally bought myself a haynes manual after owing the bike for two years, am gonna take the fork off and take it to be done as it's cheaper and doesn't seem that hard, i cant beleive that the only thing stopping the forks from just sliding through the yoke's is those little pinch bolt's!!!! I thought there would be a welded collar or something on the fork to stop it, but oh well.

It's pretty easy job to remove the forks, the trickier bit is working out how to support the bike. I put mine on its centre stand then used loads of wooden blocks under the down pipes to support it. When on the centre stand, there is very little weight on the front on the bike.

Then it's just a case of removing the mudguard, brake calipers (I used some wire with a hook shape bent into each end to put through the caliper bolt holes and hung them off the bottom yoke.) and handlebars, axle and finally the wheel. Undo pinch bolts and slide out Smile

Make sure the front of the bike is high enough so that when you drop the forks down you can remove them from the bottom yoke before they hit the floor! I didn't think about this and only had about an inch to spare. Also the forks might need a bit of wriggling and twisting to get out of the yokes once loosened, but they might also slide out under their own weight, so don't drop them onto the floor!

Okay thank's guys, gonna do it sat morn however, i dont have a centre stand or paddock stand that fit's at the centre of the bike, however i've devised a way to lean the bike over on the side stand and tie it to the rafters in the garage to stabalize, lol, should be fun to do.........

Yeh £80, i dunno if that's dear or not but suppose it's an hour's labour £40 - £60 plus seal and oil £20 - £30.

That's why i want to take this one off so hopefully i can save £40 - £50

Bit of thin plastic or a feeler gauge, wiggle it up around the seal, see if that fixes it. If not, you lost 5 minutes.
