Taking my A2 in a week, seeking a bit of consultation.

Just going to ride it like I did on my CBT, instructor said I was a prime example, so I guess I was doing it right.

Still, anything to look out for?

Regards, Scootaloo

If your instructor is happy with what you're doing then keep doing I'd say. Wink Best of luck with the test, ride safe. Thumbs Up

Try to not be all "I'm going to pass" as this does put immense pressure on you.

Check everything is legal on your bike.

Just remember to do a left and right shoulder check when needed and before pulling away.

Good luck Thumbs Up

Cheers, I'm finding the crap weather conditions recently make for good practice as I'm not tempted to speed.

Papa mentioned he would venture out of the pub (for once) and take me to a few shops to have a look around at some bikes, can't bloody wait to get off this CBF Thumbs Up

Nothing wrong with the CBF.

Are you aiming for a sport bike or a decent all rounder after?

You've passed mod 1? Then mod 2 is a piece of pie, just ride your normal ride, plenty of shoulder checks, slow into junctions and roundabouts, sharpish out.

Try not to be too bothered about what the examiner is saying, you're better to go the wrong way safely than fluff it by trying to slavishly follow possibly confusing directions.

A decent all rounder in your eyes is still going to be a massive step up for me Very Happy

I'm going to be using it for work, so a commuter is what's needed ideally, but for my line of work, it's not required (a simple back-pack would suffice), so I guess its a case of what takes my fancy ultimately.

The CBF has served me well, to a good friend I shall sell.

Naked style does appeal, that's something I'm aiming for. The hornet looks rather nice.

What's your opinion of Ducati's?

Not if you want a reliable commuter bike.

The hornet is great but drinks petrol. The bandit is great but watch for rust on used examples. I'd get a Yamaha Fazer (FZS600) if I were in your position again.

I would recommend a ZX6R but they are murder for insurance. Although the CBR600F isn't too bad in that respect and is a decent all rounder if you wanted to go for a sport bike.

My friend has a CBF600 and although it gets slated for its very linear engine, he loves it and I really enjoyed the couple of rides I've had on it. However I just can't get used to the really upright riding position...I'm just more of a leant forward kind of guy...

I don't want a Ducati now, just wanted to know what Paddy thinks of them. Yeah the CBF looks good I have not tried the lean forward riding style but I have no problem with bolt upright as it is so I think I will just stick with it.

To be honest, I think Ill just grab the best thing that comes along and go with it, CB, GSF, CBF, CBR... 250, 400, 500, 600, so on.

With 1 years NCB, at 18, they want about 3k from me for one of those Sad

If it helps you with choosing a bike, I've been working on finding bikes with "affordable" insurance that I like the look of. All of these quotes were calculated as if I was 18 (either on the day, or already 18 for a day or so) with 1 years NCB, garaged with a Meta Defcom T alarm and as a student - also the only rider and all of them include pillion cover.

Please note, these bikes may not be suitable. At the moment I'm composing a list on what has "reasonable" insurance, then later on I'll be working out whether the bike is really viable to run at 33bhp and (primarily) as a commuter.

Quote:
1NCB £295 for a 2001 Kawasaki ER 500

1NCB £395 for a 2004 Susuki GS 500 F

1NCB £710 for a 2003 Yamaha YZF 600 Thundercat

1NCB £419 for a 1999 Honda CB600F Hornet

1NCB £438 for a 2001 Yamaha 600 Fazer

1NCB £710 for a 1999 Honda VFR 800

1NCB £688 for a 2004 Triumph Speed Four (600cc)

1NCB £257 for a 1992 Honda CB400 Super Four

1NCB £535 for a 2004 Suzuki SV650

1NCB £404 for a 2007 Honda CB 500 S
1NCB £295 for a 2001 Honda CB 500 S

Also, as said by others, the A2 really isn't that hard. Good luck Thumbs UpVery Happy

Things to look out for: cancel your indicators, remember your shoulder checks, mirror check every 10 or so seconds, check mirrors before changing speed substantially (i.e. 40 to 60, 60 to 30, etc.) and remember MSM (Mirror, Signal, Manoeuvre).

MIRRORS MIRRORS MIRRORS

The examiners love constant mirror checks.

As long as you make sure you bike is LEGAL, Gear is appropriate, observations and mirror checks you'll be fine.

Don't make any rash decisions, if your in the wrong lane to where the examiner wants you to go. DO NOT swerve into the othr lane in panic. You will not be penalized for taking a wrong turn, as long as it was safe and done correctly.

Honestly? Don't dislike them.

Wouldn't mind a go on one, Ideally a 1098, but would settle for an 848.

Tempted by the hypermotard also Twisted Evil
