 |
|
Basically my CBR600RR's battery has lost power due to the alarm, needing to wait for my trickle charger to be delivered, in the mean time can these be bump started? or jump started off a car?

Listen to paddy.
I'd avoid a running bump on a 600, you need to give it a touch of throttle and it'd be incredibly easy to let it get away from you. I spent 2 months with a dodgy battery on my 250 - that nearly got away a couple of times. Although if you have a convenient hill or a mate willing to push it's worth a go... ____________________ current: ducati monster 750

Bump started my FZR600 no problem a few times, shouldn't need any throttle at all. Didn't need (ok, I didn't want to risk ) jumping on either. |

Bump started my Hornet plenty of times, tiny taste of the throttle and be ready to catch the clutch as soon as it fires into life. I would recommend trying 2nd or 3rd gear though, back wheel always locks up in first, and that rings true for the fireblade as well.
I'd do it on flatland as well, sure a hill will help....if you get it right first time, I assure you it is no fun pushing these bastard things up hills because you accidently stalled it after a successful bump start.

Hi
I would jump start it unless there is a particular reason not to.
Flat battery on a bike sat for a while probably means no fuel pump running and no fuel pressure in the system, so you will need to push it long enough and hard enough for the charging system to put enough power into the electrical system to get the fuel pump running and power up the ECU.
All the best

Bump starting 600s is actually pretty easy.
I tend to just stick it in 2nd gear, pull the clutch in and run along, at about 6-8mph just jump on and time it so the second your arse hits the seat you dump the clutch, always works for me and my Father!
Luckily for me however, where I live when I come out of our driveway there is a hill about 150m in length and if I just let the bike coast down it is doing ~15-20mph by the time I get to the bottom! So I just let it coast down after an initial push and boom, started! !
If you don't want to bump, as said, just start it from a car near you but there is no issue with bumping it. Just make sure as soon as it starts you pull the clutch in and rev the bike to keep it going.
Cheers! ! ____________________ "Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul."

Bump started a Bandit 600 plenty of times to know its easy on flat ground or top of hill, mind you no fuel pump just gravity, may not be as easy when you need to turn a pump over as well.
Bumped a ZXR 400 more times than I have digits and that wasn't too bad either and the battery on it was pretty screwed due to reg problems.
Just my experiences is all ____________________ Current: 02 FZS 1000 & 91 Royal Enfield Bullet 350 Some Bike Pics...
