Most work on a pressure switch,

When activated, small pneumatic system pushes it into gear quickly, while at the same time electronic system cuts the spark to reduce engine load. Though some are more basic, and still rely on a normal gear change, with a switch or sensor to cut the spark at the same time. They go all the way as complicated as a simple push button

It allows you to keep full throttle on, and change gear without a clutch

so why not buy an automatic like the dn-01 lol.

Quickshifters are usually fitted to adapt bikes for disabled riders on the road.

Other than that the only real use for them is in racing, it is what allows riders to use full throttle and change gear at the same time, at the top levels of racing that can make a big difference.

In fact, it's not too different to flappy paddle manual cars.

Depends on which type you have.

Some have a pneumatic actuator which pushes the gear into place whilst cutting the ignition out whilst others just have a switch so when you move the gear lever it cuts out the ignition.

Basically, when the switch is actuated, it causes the ignition system to cut out which means the spark plugs don't spark. This takes most of the load off of the drive train as it is just spinning due to it's inertia and then the gear is either pneumatically actuated or you click it in as normal.

The principle is that when the ignition is cut so the spark plugs aren't sparking there is next to no load going through the transmission and that is what prevents clutchless shifting.

Think about on your bike, try shifting gear at full throttle and then try shutting off the throttle completely and shifting gear without a clutch. It's likely it will just 'snick' in quite neatly. A quickshifter is the same thing. It cuts the ignition (like turning off the throttle) but does it for around 100 milliseconds to keep loss of power to a minimum.

Cheers! Thumbs Up!

What people have described so far is partially correct.

In short, you keep the throttle wide open, hit the gear lever which cuts the fuel or spark to the engine, which is effectively the same as closing the throttle allowing the new gear to locate without damage.

In simple terms

Does it only work changing up then? Normal clutched changes down the box.

It should only really be needed on the upshift as you'll not be giving it the whip on downshifts.

The problem with quickshifters is if you have one bike with and one bike without you forget....

Embarassed

The bit about the Polar Bear eating the Penguin.

Polar Bear do not eat Penguins as they have trouble getting the wrapper off them.

Why do you need a gadget to do something easily yourself. You are riding along see red light clutch brake slowly clutch in drop gear, carry on braking drop drop drop.. drop as many gears as needs be and simples you have quick shifted.

That was taught on CBT easiest thing to do, easier than finding the biting point on a newer bike.

They are mainly for racing for when it takes too much time to roll off the throttle slightly, change gear and then reapply.

Just to clarify, when doing a clutchless change on a bike (without a quickshifter) you apply some some pressure to the gear lever, roll off the throttle a tad (not completely shut it off!) and then it will slot into gear, then its a case of back onto full throttle once again. Done right, it should take milliseconds. A Quickshifter will cut this time in half!

Hope that makes sense Thumbs Up

i think you may not fully understand what a quickshifter is! Laughing

Only inquiring why you would need a gadget to do something you can do yourself.. Considering general bike and not in racing didn't obviously think of the few microseconds you could save or the help for disabled bikers thanks damon id give you some karma if I hadn't used it on labeling spammers. The quickshifter would only matter if you perfected your riding skills anyway in racing.

Yes, however more and more race bikes are using autoblippers now as well.

So the quickshift takes care of the changes up the box, and the autobliper does the same thing, but going down the box. No need for a clutch, just click it down, the ignition is cut and the computer blips the throttle enough for the next gear.

I'm going to explain this to you, for the 83rd time in this thread. A quickshifter is for changing UP the box without the need to shut the throttle or dip the clutch. You keep the throttle pinned and just keep chucking gears in when the revs peak. Not necessary on the road but lulzy all the same.

Already know this why are you talking to me like I'm warped.

That was before damon had replied would of given him karma already as I now understand but until a mod comes online and deletes the post/bans the spammers Im stuck with not being able to dish out any positive karma.

Don't see the point of posting a message saying thanks karma given..when I could just give it showing thanks Wink

I've got the full Bazazz system on mine, FM, TC, and QS.

Once you've had a go of a sportsbike with a quickshifter you'll want one yourself.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhRZX9DitcU

Watch how quick the gear changes are, saving you seconds per lap on trackdays, also allows for very smooth gear changes when taking large roundabouts/Corners at speed. ( Not only that but they sound awesome )
