 |
|
Just finished my Bike driving test, and got my license, I am only 16, so I need a nice little ride to get me used to riding a bike, and only being 50cc.
I really don't like the Moped and Scooter look, and was wondering if there are any more stylish looking motorbikes for me, that are 50cc.
I am looking at a range of money that is £700 - £1,400.
Also insurance cost would help as well.
Thanks. |

He's 16, buying a de-restricted bike just saves him the bother of doing it himself |

As unlikely as it may be, penalties for getting caught are not worth it (minimum 6 points, invalid insurance).
Maybe I'm being too straight up about it all but I think encouraging someone to ignore and purposely break the law immediately as they start out is a bad way to go, you might as well tell him not to bother with tax and insurance too while you're at it. |
No you are right. Encouraging a youngster to ride illegally would be irresponsible of me, I was being a little flippant I admit, so ignore my silliness OP.
The front sprocket will unlikely make much difference anyway, as I understand there isn't really the power to get any benefit from changing the gearing...and it does say that they have the orig exhaust, so he could have swapped that back to factory.
Being that the law states a moped must not exceed 31mph or have an engine size bigger than 50cc, it's very likely that from the factory, a lot of 50cc bikes travel faster than 31mph, making them illegal by default anyway!

Opinion that name sounds like a small kid having a tantrum seriously get a run of the mill cheap scooter if you really want a bike right now or wait till you are 17 then get a 125cc motorbike. ____________________ CB125>CG125>GN125>ER5>K100RS>R1100RS>K100RS

Hi, I'm 16 aswell, (and stuck with a 50cc bike). I had the choice, either of a MBK F1 Nitro, or a Motorhispania RX50. Google them if you wish, but you will find that the MBK is a fairly nice scooter (if there is such a thing), and the Motorhispania is a relatively nice looking bike, its 50cc and so road legal, and looks just like a sports bike. Guess what I took?
Thats right, the MBK! I have to be honest - a 50cc bike is there to learn on, you drop a scooter, and chances are its not its first dropping, scooters nowadays are expected to be dropped, and so built better for it! The Motorhispania on the other hand, drop it, and not only will the value go down exponentially, but youll break clutch levers, brake levers, possibly a foot on the way down, along with mirrors and other similar things. I'll put money on it that everybody on this forum has tumbled off their bike at some point in their lives. I'm still yet to have that tumble, but i know i would rather fall on a scooter, where my legs are infront of me, and so wont be taking the weight of myself and the bike when i do come off. With the hispania, chances are, whats left of my legs will be getting scraped off the floor like raspberry jam!
Let me just mention aswell, insurance for the hispania: £2450 A year. For the MBK: £318.
But then again, its your choice entirely. Your going to break the damn thing within a year anyway, and its only for a year. Buy a cheap ped (i know their unsightly and all) and put up with it for a year, get some knowledge, and spend your money on a decent 125!
Oh, and sorry for the MASSIVE reply! |

I wouldn't bother if it was me. A year is not a long amount of time.
I'd save my money and by a banging 125 when i hit 17 ____________________ Fzr-600 1999 |
