Had a bit of an issue last night with the rear brake lever travel stop bolt working itself loose and winding itself out a bit more every time i hit the brake, to the point where it was on all the time, resulting in me grinding to a holt and getting off to witness the rear disk glowing vibrant bright orange and the pads looking pretty unhealthy.

I bet if i was wearing trainers instead of boots i'd have felt this much sooner:evil:

What would you replace after such an event? anything?

Disk is still true, although a different shade to the front now.
pads work but look suspect, bubble effect paint.
Dread to think about the state of the calipers bellows, no leaks tho.
Haven't checked to see whether i've stretched the chain yet.

Anything else i should look for?

I've gotta head to work but lookforward to any advice later.

Cheers

Bleed the brakes as soon as possible. It will have boiled the brake fluid and not done its braking abilities much good.

sounds like a lucky escape, bleed the brakes and change your underpants.

Just a thought, depending on how long the problem has been there with overheating brakes (you might not have noticed it before), it might be worth checking the brake hoses too, if there is a lot of heat in the brakes (as Fizzer Thou has mentioned), it can cause the hose to collapse internally...

... just a thought

Got any pictures of the pads?

I'm curious about this bubbling effect.

Sorry for late response but thanks for all advice.

I've blead it through and changed the pads which has worked a treat, not sure its quite as good as it was before, but once again i can lock the back wheel up with a good stomp if i wish.
Might change the disk in the future.

Haven't got round to photo pads, but it just looks like the coating has got hot and started to bubble. The actual meat of the pads now has a very smooth finish, compared to the rougher nature of the new ones.

No change in chain tension Thumbs Up .
Now checking pedal return bolt regularly.
