Hi, all of a sudden my bike doesn't seem to start, and it runs very strangely on a bump start, like the clocks go mental, it does like 20mph max and sounds like its going mental, I've considered maybe the battery is dead, but surely if you can bump it, it would run off of the alternator charge?

I've checked for loose wiring and sorts, no fuses have blow either

Check the starter relay (as in replace with a new one or borrow one and try it with that one, as you can't service them).

It's next to the battery, they tend to rot and cause symptoms on many Hondas.

Sounds like the battery is way past its best possibly with added corrosion in the starter relay which feeds power into the main loom. Probably completely dead charging system as well.

If rev counter bouncing about for no reason then maybe ignition coil.
I had similar symptoms on a Kwak GT550.
Replacement coil fixed the problem.

As said above though, fresh battery needed.
However, then make sure you check charging system is ok.
Don't want to fry a new battery.

Ah, how would one check for ignition coil/charger failure? Multimeter?

ntv`s have a plastic 3 pin plug that sits inbetween the rear wheel and the battery, this should be your first port of call, it will either be black and burnt or corroded, you can either cut the wires and remake with a new plug or using shrink wrap connect the wires without a connector

then look at the fuse holder next to the solonoide, these corrode and sometimes just need a new fuse even if the one indide looks ok

Turns out it was just battery, threw new one in there and it works like a charm now Smile

You still need to break and make connections, as it cleans them
