I've been given this

its been laid up for 6 years and I'm not sure whether to break or tidy it and sell on?
the logbook says its a Z500H2 but the stickers say GPZ550.
I'm assuming its all legit as the old boy had it off a dealer years ago.Apparently it ran ok but had a missfire sometimes but when he took it to a bike shop to fix they said it had the wrong carbs fitted and wouldn't touch it Question it has mini K&N's instead of an airbox so maybe something in that?

Have you asked Google?

If I Google gpz550 I get pictures of a lot of bikes that look like this (albeit with different front mudguards and exhausts)

If I Google z500H2 I get these pictures of this bike and not a lot else.

I'd put my money on the former.

On the face of it, that's an 82/83 Z550Gp (they were never officially called GPz).

In 1981 they were twin shock and by 1984 they had the full on box section swinger, along with funkier bodywork.

Nice bike then, faster than a lot of contemporary 650s and could keep up with many 750s.

Having said that, none of the bodywork looks like it fits properly, so it could be something else trying to be a GPz (I think there was an ordinary Z550 for a short while).

Oh, and it hasn't got enough front brakes.

thats the answer I was after. the left hand rear side panel is made from sheet steel!! quite a good job mind but if I was to sell it i would want to describe it correctly as the right model.
I'll try to find the frame no tomorrow that should maybe clear tings up a bit?

My last bike, a 1984 zx400-c2 was also badged as a gpz400. Seems to be common with Kawasaki that they have a few models with the same names making it an absoloute pain in the ass to get parts for.

I got rid when then clutch broke up (apparently common on these) and the headgasket gave way, also found the metal tended to crack/strip when tightening or adjusting anything. However for a 400/4 it was bloody quick and stopped well with duel front disc's.

first gpz550 were twin shock and called the z550d1

then you had the monoshock Z550h1, then h2
