cautionary tale for ya.

i fitted some heated grips the other day to the bike (tired of chilly hands) and decided it would be a good idea to stick the right grip to the throttle tube using bog standard super glue. thing was fine for 100 miles or so - today i got real confused when the revs suddenly dropped to idle. pulled over, and the grip was just turning over the tube! only then i remembered superglue isn't fantastic at bonding to nylon... don't reckon heat from the grips/heavy wrist helped either...

luckily managed to find a nice bloke in a nearby house that had some araldite... stuck that to it and sat around for an hour waiting for it to cure!

at least the sun's out Smile

I used hair spray and superglue on my throttle grip, been on there since November and hasnt come unstuck.
Used hair spray only on the other grip, which came unstuck last week so i put it back on with more hair spray and superglue, so far so good...

good tip is to use spraypaint when putting on grips - sets extremely strong once set - if you are using renthal grips remember to get them lockwired for extra protection against slipping.

Not sure I'm understanding what you mean with the glue and sprays... I've always just put insulating tape round the bars then forced the grips on and never had a problem...

just different methods used really, the grip glues and lockwire techniques are good if you want extra confidence when ragging the tits off your bike round track.

the one thing i don't like about the hairspray technique is that it has been reported that the ingress of water from washing or riding in the rain CAN turn the hairspray into a lube!

that grip glue is pretty good, i'm sure it was found that it's essentially that modelling cement/glue, so think that would work too.

I use double sided sellotape, wet it with petrol and simply slide the grips on.

It's how they (used to?) do golf club grips, costs a fraction of the special adhesives and does not shift - I've had to cut grips off that have been done this way.

This! ^

I use clear lacquer to apply all of my grips.
Just spray a bit down inside the grip, then apply it to the bars by twisting it on, until it's where you want it.
Then leave to set. They set solid, and dont slip in the rain or anything!

AND, when you come to remove them, just stick a screwdriver down the end of the grip, and spray a bit of brake cleaner or thinners down there, and it'll slide straight back off again.

I as advised by a very knowledgeable person to "attach" the heated grips using....................fairy liquid!!!!

and it works, lubricates to get the grip on and once dry creates a sticky seal which hasnt moved once and very easy to break by sliding a screw driver around when the grip thins out & needs replacing, which allows you to reuse the throttle tube.

I had to chip the last grips off bit by bit dunno what they used! Shocked
