Recently I've noticed upon starting the bike in these cold mornings, after a couple of minutes with the engine running there is a bang on the right hand side of the bike.

Its happened every morning now for the past week. I can't see any physical signs of damage, no leaks or anything out of the ordinary. Engine oil is nice and full so I am kinda scratching my head here.

Its not due for a service for another 900 miles so i will ask the question then. In the mean time can anybody give me a heads up what it might be? Karma

Hi

Mechanical bang or a bang from the exhaust?

On such a new bike neither sound right. A bang from the exhaust would likely come from extra fuel landing in the exhaust unburnt then being ignited. Would suggest that it is running VERY rich when warming up or misfiring. However don't know enough about the CBF fuel system to comment beyond that.

All the best

Keith

sounds more like a mechanical bang. It sounds like somethings ricochet off the engine and hitting the plastic cover. I'll get a video after work as it only happens after the bikes been standstill for a while.

Hi

Sounds odd. If it happened when you first moved the bike then I would suggest a brake pad sticking to the disk. Similarly the chain could slap the chain guard if way too lose and probably if wearing very unevenly (but I would be very surprised at this on a new bike).

All the best

Keith

My CBF at times makes a popping sound when cooling down or even sometimes warming up... But it's usually only a pop or 2 before it settles.. I assumed it was the metal expanding/contracting as it warms/cools...

How many miles have you covered mate?

imagine your sitting on the bike, its the side where your right leg is resting on the plastic cover (not the fairing)

My bike does the usual expanding and contracting noise like all bikes do but this bang is defiantly not it.

Imagine using your knuckles and knocking your tank hard, thats the sound its makes but on the right side where the engine/exhaust is.

I'd take the plastic cover off and see if it still does it, or see if you can isolate the noise.

Sounds like something is under tension and when things around it expand with heat it is released, maybe a clip or fastener or something. Perhaps something is warping with heat, like how a crap baking tray will ping into a new shape in the oven?

If it's not constant it could just the expansion of the exhaust or exhaust components, also as engines warm up the heat expansion of valves and valve clearances slightly affect combustion timing so you may even a very slight issue with back fire.

I get taps when my engine warms up which is unusual because engines normally become less noisy as they warm up. It turned out to be something totally unexpected but common on my bike. The noise coming from chain rattle sounds as though it's coming from other places on the bike too. Weird!

Mine has done the same thing before, was the fairing popping in and out of the rubber lugs. Check that the screws holding the fairing on are done up properly, I replaced the screws on mine with allen bolts as the normal ones are really soft.

hmmm funny you say that, I did add crash bungs on the bike a few weeks ago. It just seems odd, is the bike heating up that much its causing fairings to pop out of the lugs?

If it only has 1.6k on it it should still be under warranty, don't touch it let a dealers sort it.

I think you hit the nail on the head there. I just gently punched the plastic cover where it meets the fairing lugs and its making that exact same banging noise.

The crash bung I added where the fairing screw use to be is nice and tight so I'm not sure whats actually making the noise.

I'll have to remove the panel later and take a proper look. Thumbs Up

I'll just take the cover off to have a peep. sounds like a clip is loose or something. If it worse I'll book it in.

Mine does the same, try tightening the bolts holding your heat shield to the exhaust.
