50cc Piaggio NRG wont start

My scooter died on me and now wont start, what do i do?
It has good compression, more than enough fuel is getting into the engine chamber and spark plug has a nice spark.
When i turn to start it sometimes feels like it wants to start but doesnt.
Any suggestions please?

Also spark plug is wet after a few seconds of turning the electric start.

try a new spark plug first. it might spark o.k. when holding it against an earth, but its much harder to get a spark under high compression in the engine, so your plug may be dead but doesnt look like it.

ok, next, take the spark plug out and have someone press the starter button while holding the throttle open. you then attempt to hold your thumb over the hole. if compressio0n is good enough to start the engine you shouldnt be able to hold it there without the compression blowing it off.

or, you could use a compression tester guage but im gonna go ahead an guess you aint got one

Drop a bit of petrol into the plug hole, put the plug back in properly and try that. Post up exactly what happens. Should tell if its a fueling or sparking problem.

have you changed the jetting on it? because it could be running rich and that would cause problems with the engine starting

Check that the air filter is clean and dry, as you already have a spark and compression. It could also be the auto choke has failed and is causing the engine to over fuel. To test it, remove it from the carb, and conect it directly to the battery, the brass pin should extend and then after 5 minutes or so it should go back to it's original length. If this doesnt happen it needs replacing, manual ones can be had for about £10.

I've had this problem with two different scooters, each time it turned out to be a damaged reed valve. Without taking apart your engine for inspection you can't really tell, does this bike have an immobilizer fitted to it?

Take the spark plug out and spin the engine over, that'll remove excess fuel.

Anyone think the problem might be the CDI unit?

I doubt it will be the CDI as your plug is firing.
