Hi, after replacing all 4 inlet rubbers because old ones were cracked I am getting a 4k idle when its suppose to be around 1.5k.
Throttle sits at lowest setting on the carbs and the idle adjuster is fully out, so in theory, the bike should be stalling not idling too high.
Its a yamaha thundercat, carbed bike.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance, Grant

Air leak around the rubbers. Air is getting into the intake after the carbs.

Can you suggest anything to check where the leak is? Is it common for an air leak on one could to the second one? Or is it a case that both are leaking?
thanks, Grant

Get an aerosol, nothing too flammable but deodorant or something would be fine. Spray on each intake rubber with the engine running and the engine will rev up more when you spray on or near the leak.

Are the throttle cables routed the same way as before the inlet rubbers were replaced?

Did you have to compensate with a higher idle speed before you replaced the inlet rubbers?

The actual throttle body on the carb is fully back, and so Im 100% positive it is not the throttle cables or the idle adjuster as that is right out.
I have never had to alter any idle speed. However, if Im sat in traffic on a hill the idle speed drops, sounding similar to a cold engine or an engine thats going to stall, even though it never does, could they be linked?

Have you looked at the throttle cable, when you removed the carbs to change the rubbers did you alter its setting, is the throttle linkage sitting on its stop

Did a previous owner screw out the pilot mixture screws to overcome the leaky carb rubbers, is the choke fully closed.

Even with throttle disconnected it was the high idle.
I will give the mixture screw ago.
thanks
