Hi all

It's come to that end of year again where I've had to renew.

I made the mistake last year of not finding out if I could ride other bikes (brothers, dads, friends etc) on my policy Evil or Very Mad

I'm 24, 8 years no claims and will be doing a multibike policy.

I've tried:

Bennetts: Must be over 25
H&R insurance: Won't insure me for multibike.
MCE?
Bikesure?
Motorcycles direct?
Carole Nash?

My last premium was a multibike policy, £220, 7 years no claims, 3 bikes with Bennetts so I can get insured and it is cheap.

So does anyone recommend I try the above insurers or if you've got experience with any that offer riding other bikes?

Cheers Karma

I'm with Bikesure, and my policy specifically has the 'can ride other bikes' clause on it.
Not sure if there are any age restrictions though, as I'm 27, so it's not an issue for me.

Although be prepared to send copies of licence and also proof of NCB....
And that renewall letter is NOT GOOD ENOUGH Twisted Evil as it is not dated at the end of the year...

I am 24, zero NCB and just got a TPFT multi-bike policy (a 125 and a 600) with Carole Nash (Equity Red Star as underwriter).

Policy states that I am covered TPO on any other bike with rider's permission.

Hope that helps.

I'm 19, a year of NCB (two come May) and have ride other bikes on my policy, if I can find the name of the insurer I'll post it. Just keep having a look around, some companies let you specify it on your policy for an extra fee.

On a side note, I've had ride other bikes on every policy since I've been 17. These have been with MCE/Falcon Insurance I believe.

Cheers!

I'm 18 (only by about a week when I took the policy), with 1 years NCB.

My insurer gives me pillion cover, EU riding for up to 90 days and cover to ride other bikes TPO.

The insurer was also very good and let me add all of my modifications (sat nav, tank pad, restrictor kit, alarm, alpha.dot) without affecting the price of the policy. Other insurers put my quote from ~£250 to over £1000 at the mention of a restrictor kit Shocked They refused to quote if I had a restrictor kit and an alarm Laughing

Currently with Equity Red Star (underwriter), which I bought through WickedQuotes (broker).

My eBike policy doesn't cover other bikes though. That's with Southern Rock underwriting it, I don't know if their other underwriter offers other bike cover.

I'm 22, insured with Bikesure just this last week and a half and it specifically mentions that I CAN ride other bikes third party.

I've yet to see any age restriction on it either sooooooo.......

Who wants to let me ride their bike? Twisted Evil

I'm with Equity Red Star as well, through Wicked Quotes.

Paid just under £400 with 1 years NCB at 17 for my Bandit 400 with all modifications declared.

It's third party fire & theft and I can ride other bikes TPO, I did have to tick it though.

I thought you had to be 25 to have the 'ride other bikes' on your insurance?

Thanks for all the replies!

I used to be able to ride other bikes when I was younger but didn't think of it when renewing as it's always been the norm.

I think I'll try Bikesure.

Shereen, H&R won't accept my multibike policy for some reason.

Only ever heard bad with eBike so not tempted with them.

Carole Nash I'l have to try but they always come up expensive.

Seems Equity Red Star are the way forward.

I'll try MCE too.

Never heard of this 'Wicked Quotes' so I'll have to try them too.

Thanks all for the input! Karma

Only with certain insurers as some have said above.

I used to be able to ride other bikes too at a younger age.

It's only some insurers policies which say they want you to be 25.

Do insurers seriously consider a tank pad a modification? That's got to rank alongside declaring that my tax disc holder is attached to my pillion footpeg holder?

I've always got a good price and really good service through Direct Choice. I'd had my licence for a year before I got my first bike and they actually called to check that I didn't have any no-claims.

Before you go for MCE.... Do a search here...

If you have heard ebike were bad... Then I dread to think how MCE rate..

Yep, unfortunately. But somehow I feel it's not substantial enough to affect your claim should you not declare it.

I didn't mind declaring mine because it was in the list of modifications and it didn't affect the policy price by even a penny (rightly so!)

Did you declare the dead fly on your screen? Could affect airflow or weight distribution!!

Insurance is going silly.

I believe some insurers/underwriters will not give you rider other bikes unless you are 21, 25 or some arbitrary age but every one I've been with have been happy to give me it since I was 17.

I've had ride other bikes/drive other cars on every policy I've ever had, from well before 25.y.o to now at 25 - I haven't had a 25 yr old clause yet.

Thanks for all the replies.

Well I've done a few online quotes which didn't do very well.

Phoned up:

Wicked quotes = £1424

Bikesure = £600 +

Considering I paid £220 last year it's quite a lot...

Going to try Carole Nash tonight, was going to try MCE but there has been some bad reviews on here?
