I made my own carbon tank protectors ( copied from other parts, which i just used as a mold ) and the fit is fine on a dry fit until it comes to actually sticking them on, i've tried various types of bonding tape, even the really thin stuff in small strips but i can't get rid of the gap it creates which just makes it look completely naff ( more so than having the carbon on there in the first place, but i don't want to pay to have the tank repaired and painted )

I want to have them on as the tank has quite a few bad marks on it from my last crash a few years ago.

What other options do i have? i'm thinking of just using some form of glue and thinking fuck it, to hell with the paint underneath Laughing

this is actually a bad picture, it doesn't look to bad from this angle, but from the front and the side, you can see the gap and the tape underneath, so you get the idea

Glue gun? Would that hurt the paint? If not liquid gasket definitely wouldn't and would stick it fine

Liquid gasket sounds interesting Thinking i know alot of glues can be quite aggressive so that sounds like an option, i hope i have some in my shed Laughing

With the liquid gasket if you get the black one you can seal around it and wipe off excess. Would look perfect. Kind of like how you would seal a bath.

if you are 100% happy with how it looks i would use tiger seal (pu adhesive ) you can buy generic form from tool station for a few quid

if the tank is damaged make sure that its rust proofed before fitting
as you may be creating a moisture trap

any adhesive that sticks to fibreglass will stick to a painted surface
maybe try evo stick if you really want it to be temporary although
as has been said before need a filler to fill the gap to stop it looking stuck on

remake your carbon bits but remove too much material so the pad fits the excess removed so when it is on your pad it is flat,

Id guess you could sand down the ones you have to do this,
It is only the thickness of the sticky pad, and just leave the last 2/3 mm with no sticky around the edge to keep it invisible.

I only used 2 layers of carbon to begin with, any less and it would be too brittle and you would be able to see through the weave making it look crap

So i ended up using some standard black sealant and put some tape on to hopefully hold it in place while it sets, i think i'll add a bead around it later to tidy it up
