Hi, am i right In thinking a cat b registry is only recorded against the frame? So in theory i can swap a bike to a 'clean' frame?
Reason I ask is there is a bike on ebay that says it is a stolen recovered and has been fixed but is cat B.
If not, what out of a cat b engine can be salvaged?
thanks

It's perfectly fine to do so, I had to do this on my R6 when I bent it. Just fill out the V5 for the new frame with the old engine number. Obviously you'll be using the other frames numberplate.

thanks for the reply, the frame and engine numbers have been removed by the salvage company, if I leave the engine section blank does it go to a q-plate? Or can I get away with the frames details for a normal reg?

sounds dodgy as fuck to me , i buy alot of bikes from insurence and cat b bikes are normally totally beond repair only breakers can buy them and trust me if he bought it as a breaker its worth more to him in bits
oh and insurence companys dont remove numbers

i sujest you be very carefull as sounds like you may be buying a stolen bike make sure you see paperwork from the insurence company

ringing bikes if caught can carry a sentence!

Hi

Agree with the above. While they might destroy the chassis number or make it obvious it is a write off I can't see them bothering normally (except maybe a breaker trying to hide that it came from them), but no real reason to destroy the engine number as the engine should be able to be used.

All the best

Keith

I thought a stolen/recovered bike with the engine numbers ground off was written off as a cat B by default?

Not sure, but that would be the tea leaves removing the ID rather than the insurer.

All the best
