Need overhaul of rear caliper and wondered if I buy the seal kit from wemoto (consists of 2x dust seals and 2 x piston seals), will this be sufficient ?

Do I need to split the caliper and if so, do I need the seal that goes between the two halves, or will I get away with just the dust and piston seals.

The dust seals on there at the moment, are starting to creep out along side the pistons, so needs to commence work a little sharpish.

Hi

Is it a D or E model. On the E I think it is just a single piston sliding caliper which isn't able to be split.

All the best

Keith

Hi Keith,

Sorry its an E model. Yes you are right, I downloaded all the microfiches last night and checked, and its a sealed unit, so only the dust and piston seal need doing. (no o ring like on the front)

Many thanks for coming back to me. Had a feeling you would know.

It is a good idea to get some seal grease to cover the new seals with when you go to install them. This makes the cleaned up pistons easier to reinstall and staves off some corrosion to a degree.

When you remove the old seals, make sure that any old dust/crud buildup behind the seals is cleaned out otherwise the pistons will seize in the bore quicker than normal.

If the piston has rusted then it should be replaced as well. MandP do a piston and seal kit, last time I bought one it was about £15.
