One of my last topics....

Some div who basically trashed my CBR600...

Got a call from the insurance claims handling company today.

They've written a cheque out for £870 and I get to keep the CBR.

The personal injury / damaged helmets / jackets etc is still ongoing but at least the bike part is sorted out.

It was a 1991 CBR600F2, 30k on the clock. Now the damage is as follows: smashed left mirror, front cowl, left side of cowling, scraped rear left panel, cracked left engine casing which hasn't gone through to the crank case.

So it wouldn't need too much to put the bike right, HOWEVER... I really don't have time to be waiting for fairings to arrive from China, sourcing engine casings etc. I just want to be on the road again (only got a week left on courtesy bike).

What do you reckon this bike is worth (CAT C). The engine (other than the casing) was sound, the tank is undamaged, exhaust system is good, forks aren't bent and good seals no pitting. All the other usual stuff.

I'm tempted to just go for a quick sale of the CBR and buy something else...

Advice guys? Smile

Desription of your bike sounds like the one, i've been riding around for the last few years, (F2 same as yours, same year).

I just hacked the cockpit part of the fairing down a bit, and carried on riding it.

These bikes are good for a high mileage and relatively problem free.
Keep it going, save the payout until you can afford something better. This way you can keep on the look out for something you, actually, want rather than settling for something you don't!

Sort the engine casing, and sell it as a runner for much more money.

At the least, swap the engine casing as already said by others. This makes it much more attractive to a buyer if it has a "good" engine.

But then if you need transport, just swap the casing and fix the rest with zip ties + fibreglass kit from halfords. Bob-a-job and you're good to go.

Ah nice one, appreciate it.

Unfortunately it's all cosmetic so getting matching panels will just be a nightmare. Just going to try and shift it as a runner (which it is), and buy something else.

Brand new cover from David Silver Spares is £30-£35.

Check eBay for spares, seems you wern't very attached to this bike though as you want to get rid.

If you get another bike and have an accident will you sell up again?

I just don't have the time to be sourcing fairing etc. I need the bike as my transport.

Interesting re. the welding Smile

its seems weird that considering that you need the bike as "transport"
that you'd rather buy another untested bike,
than ride your bike around with no fairings for a bit,

buy a side cover, and keep an eye for some new fairings,
keep riding the bike, when the bike is all sorted again, sell it,
if you sell it as it stands you'll probably only get a few hundred quid
