I have just brought a Piaggio Hexagon 180, 2 stroke scooter, was told when I purchased it (private sale) that the autolube leaked but wasn't a problem cus he just premixed. Rode it home and it runs OK, next day found some oil under bike, (which got me thinking how can the autolube leak if he didn't fill it up?) So noticed the oil was coming out a little hole (looks drilled) near the bottom of air box, take cover off and find a little oil in the bottom and on air filter, so take the air box off, and oil in the pipe that connects on the carb, so leaving everything off I put some kitchen roll under the carb (just checked the tissue and seems to have dripped a thinner liquid (petrol and oil?) still red in colour a smells of petrol (But it as come out the carb!!!) Obviously I am new to all this (I haven't had 2 wheels for nearly 20years) looking at the pipes I don't think there is any oil in the autolube feed to the carb and the tank should be premixed!! sorry for all the waffle, anyone got any ideas what I should do now, carb clean? any suggestions gratefully received, Thanks in advance, GILDZ.

I don't know, I only got it last week, there are no signs of this on the body work! The bloke who sold it me gave me the impression it just started to leak, he thought it was the autolube so premixed instead!!

Took off carb, looked fine but gave it a thorough clean. noticed oil pipe had leaked a few drips (thought autolube empty!) So now I know where the oil is coming from! It's just dripping into the carb from the autolube when not running (then just flowing down hill out back of carb into air box!) So is my problem the oil pump? (not shutting off the flow completely) or could it be cable to the oil pump keeping it open, As you can tell I have no idea what I'm really doing just trail and error! All I can think of now is to take off the transmission cover, extract the pump and have a nosey!!!! Thanks for reading this far, any advice welcome, thanks GILDZ.

Hi that's the only way you will learn is by trial and error .pump may be knakard or even cable but only you will no because you have got the bike there with you only advise I can give is proberly what you already no .don't run the bike with no oil as its the only thing keeping your bike from seizing .also if you just brought bike proberly has a problem last person could not fix so search hard .I recently got a bike man told me ran well it was far from it LOL I've spent 400 on it so far but I have now turned it in to a project replacing all worn parts with new including paint.only other thing I could say is you could disconnect oil supply and premix in tank wen put fuel in .hope this helps but the only person that can help your self is you

The engine on my KE125 is auto lube. You see, there is a point behind most autolubes, which is why they are present on some 2 stroke engines. On mine, the oil goes through the main bearings and then into the crankcase where it mixes with fuel. If you run with premix, chances are you will need to rebuild the engine very often to replace bearings as they may not get the oil. I recommend (although others might disagree) that you reconnect the autolube and use it. Although it's more of a hassle, you'll probably be better off Wink

Yeah they have gearbox/clutch oil which is a totally different system. You have oil in the gearbox, and a separate oil tank that you just have to keep filled for autolube (2-stroke oil)

Not that i'm aware of. If it did then there would be the risk of burning gearbox oil in the engine, which isnt good...

Duno but Probs worth striping down and examining cable and replacing pump if need be because from what andresoccer says its important so no messing if you have just got bike it would be worth doing to protect your invesment

Just quick update of how far I've got! Took crankcase off to have a nosey at oil pump (wiggled it, opening and closing the er.....thingy! as you do! Opened the bleed screw a little until got a little drop of oil, then a bit more wiggling!!!) seems to have slowed down the drip in the carb! Was going to take it off clean it up and see what could be done with this non serviceable pump, but have to take the variator off to do so. checked the net for the tool that's needed....NOTHING! loads for other piaggio models but not my 180!!! Anyhow! Went to local scooter shop for some advice, they said pump almost definitely will need replacing and piaggio never made a tool that went on general sale to the public for my bike!!! They had one but it cost £80! (can this be right?) Asked him would it have to be a garage with the tool then, he said there are ways around it but didn't elaborate!!!! Think I might have to open a new thread with this!! Thanks again, GILDZ

Yeah, that's the one thanks mate, it's getting the variator off is my problem now, also shouldn't my autolube be working all right when riding just letting oil through when not? (not shutting off completely) I probably am going to disconnect it to stop the leak!

I dont know much about the engine, or the configuration or whatever. All i know is that you just need to disconnect the oil pump to stop the leak. When you get the new pump, just make sure you connect it correcly. You will need to adjust it because at different revs it will allow more oil in with fuel. Does it have a cable thats connected to the carby cable?

Yeah cable splits off from throttle cable, so opens up the pump same degree as carb. Going to disconnect pump tomorrow if I have time. Also to add to my post from earlier, My mate knows someone who had same problem with getting a variator tool, so made his own in a workshop. He's going to see if he can get hold of it for me! (also waiting for ebay seller to get back to me to make sure the one he's selling fits my bike, (thanks to another helpful member on this forum for the link!) Thanks for your help too mate, it's much appreciated, Gildz.

Its alright, i kinda feel like i need to give back to the forum for the people who have helped me Smile anyway, so your getting the oil pump that i linked you? I cant really give you much help with the variator because thats just a thing for mopeds im pretty sure... (i dont have a moped or motorbike, just the engine that im putting on a go kart). Can you take photos of the engine for me (like the oil pump and connections or whatever). There should be one inlet pipe from oil tank to pump, and an outlet pipe from pump to carby (or from pump to engine cover to go through bearings before mixing with fuel).
Best of luck
