 |

What is wrong with bike design in Europe? All these plastic fantastic race replica's or those slightly homo cruisers not to mention those nasty narrow off-road jobbies that would have my fat ass dragging over each side of the seat. Where are the commuter bikes, the normal go off to work bikes? I've had my licence six months today and want to buy a new bike but not one single machine interests me. I want something like this I found below. My current machine is 32yrs old and just want something similar but less hassle. I dont want a bike that looks like it's headlight melted next to the fire and does less MPG than my car. I also have no concerns for the size of my penis and need a big engine. 80mph and 70mpg would be fine thankyou.

Sorry for the rant but feel I'm going to be stuck on classic bikes fighting rust and awaiting parts on Ebay forever! ____________________ Rides: Honda H100a (Retired), VT500e (Sold), Kawasaki ZX400 (sold), Kawasaki GT550 (Sold), Suzuki Inazuma (Daily), Honda CD185t (Broken), LML Star 2t (Last run edition). |

Whats wrong with that? A bloke at the hospital commutes on one. I drool everytime I go for a fag break.
But if you are looking for a cheap and reliable commuter then you are looking for something Japanese or Korean.
As ever budget sets the limits. ____________________ Kal...

Currently borrowing a 97 Monster 750... Its book quote of 45mpg seems fairly true so far, its probably not "ideal" in terms of reliability but it seems pretty capable.
Down on speed from the usual in line 4 750, but its definitely got a kick in the balls with acceleration
Round light, not a sports bike, comfy, fairly decent ride, nice brakes...pretty good |

OK, I do like that Suzuki, but what do you object to about the Triumph Bonneville, Royal Enfield Bullet, or an unregistered or low mileage YBR250?
Or if you have the budget for a new bike, buy two old bikes, use one as a donor, you'll still spend less. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

You have not said how far you are travelling to work? Is it going to be a one use kind of transport. I.E. Just a work horse? What kind of cc are you looking at, how much is in the budget? Are you going to use it all the year round. Or is it more or less dry sunny day's?
As someone has said a scooter could be what you are looking for. Rather than a bike. If you are still looking at a bike. Go to a bike shop and ask. Say you are looking for a 500 or less twin. I would be looking at an air cooled one. No water radiator or ant-freeze to worry about. But that's me.

Closest I could find.
Still - it's nominally European, doesn't push any of the normal 'male posturing' buttons, has a round headlight, and has all the contemporary stylings of a ZX Spectrum.
Throw into the mix that it's a) not much over three grand, and b) a two-stroke, and you've got the perfect 'Screw you, modernity!' statement bike. ____________________ '10 SV650SF, '83 GS650GT (it lives!), Questionable DIY dash project, 3D Printer project, Lasercutter project |

The street triple certainly comes in the 'can commute on it' rather than the 'commuter' category. The fuel consuption is pretty dire when you get at all heavy handed. My wifes renault Twingo does about twice the mpg of my striple ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |
