Hi

More hornet issues.

Main/Dipped beam doesn't work.

The stop and tail do, the pass button does, the sidelight does.

Fuses look fine, bulb is fine, switches look ok, I've sprayed some WD in there anyway.

Any ideas?!

Yes, the 'pass' button works. This means, if nothing else, main beam works on the bulb.

I hate electrics.

It seemed to have some sort of feed, 5v or so, at the bulb.

I might just set fire to it.

Don't think the MOT man will like that.

Speaking of which, it ran out today. Sad

Erm...

How does the light on hornet work.

Do you have a small side light and a big bulb with dipped and high beam. Pretty sure the "Pass" is the full beam part of the bulb. So having the bulb swapped out might sound stupid but I'd swap it out..

I remember when I used G's bike the pass button didnt work.. and I could never get full beam Laughing Could be spastic though.

Small side light

Big bulb for main and dipped

Pass button works = High beam works

High beam does not work on the button

Just had a look at the bulb for a hornet... there are 2 elements in there, the pass light uses the full beam, I suggested replacing the bulb because the dipped light element could have blown...

Sorry you had replied before I got there.

did you check for loose wires (or corrosion) in the actual switch?

Is it the push button "HI" or the big flick switch version?

If its the little push button one, my CBR had an issue with the contacts in the actual switch gear. Opened it and gave it a little rub with light sandpaper to clean up the iffy looking white crap in there.

Seems to work fine still (see it flying around)

The little push button does work, the big flick button doesn't.

Contacts look clean and I have sprayed WD on them. Confused

No.

Otherwise I wouldn't have touched them.

Me personally I'd be stripping down the switch gear completely and making sure all the contacts are clean and clear, checking no loose wires in there (and all springs, clips and any other bits that can become dislodged) are in place and secure, then start tracing back down the wire to the plugs, check all the pins are clean in there, maybe try running a wire from the live terminal up to the back of the bulb and find out if everything works as it should that way (be careful where poking the wire though).... but as I say... that's just what I'd be doing

There's a relay in the headlight?!

Why, and where?

There will probably be a relay for the headlight, so the full power doesn't go through switch.
(As opposed to my Delica, which it turns out does have full power going through the stalk, when the fuse blew due to a short and I replaced it with one from a dodgy batch that it turns out don't blow Rolling Eyes - cue a fair bit of smoke pretty quickly and lots of melted stuff.)

Ok, so if I trace the wires from the switch, it should go through a relay before it goes to the bulb?

Does the 'pass' button not go through said relay?

You've still not said if you've tried another bulb.

Check switches for continuity. Then work your way to the bulb

I had a similar issue, with the TDM down to a dodgy earth, I'd inspect each connector block clean then up and make sure the connections are good.

Wiring diagram:
https://s574.photobucket.com/albums/ss182/hmmmnz1/Honda/?action=view¤t=cb600f.jpg

No relays it seems.
Mistakenly thought it was the ZX9 and first looked at wiring diagrams for that - turns out the single headlight C doesn't have a relay but the dual headlight E does, as a point of interest.

So if the pass button works it very much points to it being a switch.

Possible it could be either the main lighting switch (though the sidelight bit of that works, it's a separate bit) or the 'dimmer' switch.

Should be able to unplug the ends get the multimeter out and poke it into the appropriate bits to see if a connection is made for both.

Several.

However, even if I hadn't, atleast main beam should work.

I'll get probing tonight / tomorrow, will update.
