Hi

The caliper is a floating caliper. You should be able to move it from side to side, but it will probably take a small amount of force.

The disk should not move from side to side. If it does then it is probably warped, but you would probably feel the front brake lever pulsing when braking, and the bike would not slow down smoothly.

If the front end is vibrating / oscilating then it is probably just the front wheel out of balance.

If the whole wheel is moving from side to side then it is probably the front wheel bearings that are gone. Check for any play in the front wheel (get someone to hold the front end of the bike off the ground, the you hold the front wheel at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock and try and rock it, and see if you can feel a click).

It is also possible that the front wheel is buckled, but this takes a fair amount of force.

All the best

Keith

Hi

That explains the handling, but not explain the caliper moving around. Check the front disk, and check the front wheel bearings as well. If the bike hasn't been used for a while, and is then used again that seems to be a prime time for them to fail.

All the best

Keith
