at the moment im in thailand learning muay thai for the last few months and have even had 1 amateur fight (which i lost) so far and found that even after all the padwork, bagwork, technique and sparring i still couldnt "get in the zone" so to speak
i can do sparring at 75% no bother but when it come to actually fighting, or even sometimes 100% sparring i struggle to find the point in it, i cant bring myself to wail on a guy thats done nothing to me and in all fairness is probably a pretty cool guy just doing the same as me.
does this make sense? i just cant get into the mindset of a fight without there being a need - like self defence or something
any tips to overcome this? would it go away over time/training? its getting extremely frustrating now that im coming up against more experienced and even pro fighters when sparring
cheers for helpful answers ____________________ past: klx 250, cbr125, SRAD 600, cbr600rr

If you ever watch any MMA or fighting sports and you notice the competitors, they generate a hate within themselves and come out wound up.
You cant go into the ring thinking, "oh he is a jolly nice fellow, after the match we will have to go for drinkypoos".
You need to be psyched well before the fight, go out there wanting to rip his teeth out of his ass thinking whatever works to get you in a controlled rage.
Failing that, take up something non contact ____________________ Honda Varadero >> Triumph Speed Four >> Honda CBR1100xx |

Have you considered taking up a martial art?
I've done T'ai Chi since I could walk & often wondered how some people can consider the primitive use of violence as a competitive sport. |

Your over there training and fighting, and can't go full on, wtf you bother going for, did you not figure out this lack of commitment before booking the flight.

Perhaps you're just decently evolved and don't enjoy hurting people? I'd say leave it, you're likely to get hurt if you carry on without the will. You'll come across a knuckle dragger who really does enjoy it and that won't be good. ____________________ 'Allo! My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die!

Unless you are fast or have very bad stamina, it's always better to be active to win rounds. Allowing time for your opponent to do something first is what can lead you to losing.
I know what you mean by just holding off, it's natural when you don't want to get hit. May I ask, do you spar a lot? ____________________ Hit the G spot. |

Me and 3 of my friends bought some gloves and things and do backyard sparring, it really takes it out of you, fighting is good for fitness!
Like a bunch of pikies
I try to avoid getting in fights when I can, trouble seems to seek me out whenever i'm on a night out ____________________ Fzr-600 1999 |
