I mean the first gearchange of the day, so get on bike and start it, clutch in, gearlever down and the bike lurches forward slightly. If I go into first on the centre stand (with clutch in) the rear wheel just spins.
As soon as I've gone back to neutral it's OK after that, no spinning wheel. I haven't tried stopping and restarting the bike to see if it's a cold oil thing or whatever - not sure what experiments would help to diagnose?
I tried using the rear brake last night when I had spinning wheel on the stand, the bike revs died a bit but the wheel didn't continue spinning afterwards. So it seems like a very initial condition when it happens, then it's fine afterwards.

Most bikes I've had a go on seem to do this, first gear drags a tiny bit. So long as your brakes work, there shouldn't be a problem though.

Hold the clutch in for a while, and paddle the bike so it's moving before you engage first. Will probably snick in then.

I had with clutch / 1st gear problems - was down to having a cable that was worn(stretched), and un-lubricated.

You could have a go at oiling the cable, or replacing the cable, and oiling that, or tweaking the bite point out a tiny bit to see what happens.

It's normal.

There's meant to be a 'thunk' when you change down to first after starting the bike from cold.

Perfectly normal, mine does similar things, even when warm.
