While out on a run the weekend, I was riding behind a biker at a decent distance, when he made a hand signal to me. It composed of his left arm out straight towards the road, while moving his palm backwards towards me. I could have understood if I had been riding too close to him that he wanted me to back off, but I was a good distance behind him. Anyone know what this signal is for, and any others you may have come across that weren't immediately obvious?

he's slowing down? was his brake lights working or very sunny?

your palm horizontal to the floor moving up and down usually means your slowing down/braking.

I would usually take that as 'give me some space'.
As you weren't too close could he just have been stretching? Confused

He wasn't slowing down though. His palm was facing me, and doing a 'shoo' movement. He probably was just stretching, but I took it as something up ahead. Still don't know what that might have been, however...

Maybe he farted and was trying to waft it in my direction Laughing

I've been saved a few times when bikes or agers have given me a simaler wave to indicate that there's old bll ahead, doesn't sound like it in this case though.

Seems a bit harsh. Indeed, you were enhancing their safety campaign by reducing the speed of traffic entering the dangerous section of road! Surprised

I think the idea is to do it once you're out of their sight...

Shoulda raced up along side him and asked him!! Laughing

As for the speed traps, I recall seeing on tv a guy would erect cardboard notices.

may have been a turning signal - last weekend there must have been a scooter show on or something as i saw about 5 riders (mainly on lambrettas) doing arm turn signals. Smile
