 |
|
Do not have access to the motorcycle roadcraft atm. Wondered if anyone could dig out the reference for me to being able to use the full width of the road (when safe to do so). i.e. being allowed on the 'wrong' side of the white line.
Just need it to win an argument (you know the type )
I know it's in there, just can't recall the exact wording.
Thanks in anticipation. ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002, Schedule 6, Road Markings.
See marking 1004 and "Vehicular traffic [...] should not cross or straddle the line unless it is safe to do so".
So if it's "safe to do so" then vehicular traffic may cross or straddle the line. That's the purpose of the qualifier. It's deliciously tautological to note that it's not safe to cross the line when it's not safe to cross the line.
Also, Section 10 doesn't list that marking, so it's not an offence by itself to ignore the "should" (per RTA 1988 Section 36). ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
