 |
|
So there I am at the pump which i have had to queue 10mins for at Tescos, LITHERLAND, HAWTHORNE ROAD, LITHERLAND, MERSEYSIDE, L21 8NZ.
Pull out my wallet, pop the card in the pump, enter pin, remove card, lift nozzle, place in tank, look at the pump display and it says "No Fuel Dispensed Replace Nozzle"
Then i hear over the tannoy "would pump twelve please remove the helmet"
I waved my card, she waved her hands...
I get of my bike, remove my lid and walk in to the kiosk, they have a sign about lids in the kiosk.
I ask her why i need to remove my lid.
She moans about "drive-offs"
I reply with "I am using Pay @ Pump"
Bint - "We need to verify your age, you need to be over 25"
Me, knowing i am wrong - "i thought the legal age was 18"
Bint - "It's 16"
Me - "thanks, you have just contradicted yourself"
I walk (storm out in a huff) of the kiosk, get back on the bike and go over to the supermarket so i can speak with the store manager.
He comes on over.
I ask him why i was asked to remove my lid, even though i was using the Pay @ Pump facility. And what is the point of me using this facility if it isnt going to save me any time what so ever.
He says something about there being a "Look 25" policy across all stores.
I mention that i have used several tesco petrol stations around liverpool with no problem what so ever. I can understand, to a point, about removing my lid before entering the kiosk but to be refused petrol on the forecourt when using the pay@pump is ridiculous.
I asked, if the person wants to verify my age then they should come over and ask to see my driving licence.
I should not be discriminated against for riding a motorbike.
I use the pay @ pump facility as I dont have to remove my lid as there is no need for me to go in store.
I pointed out that the petrol station is on a main route to the local bike meet. I also remind him of what happened to Asda when bikers were treated unfairly.
He apologises for my "experience" and says he will have a word with the bint.
I still want to write an angry complaint letter, so any help with that would be ace.
I am fuming, proper fuming!

If you're not old enough to be filling up with petrol, you're not old enough to be driving. Logic dictates anyone who drives into the filling station is old enough to be dispensing petrol.
EDIT:
In the situation you describe, unless my tank was bone dry, I'd have got back on the bike and gone elsewhere. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

I thought you posh lot down there have the manservant do the filling up, or some local oik who doffs his cap, wipes his nose with his sleeve and says, "God bless you Guv'nor" as you throw him a farthing tip.
Must be hard times at the mo

Certain places have certain rules. For example, Sainsbury's have an acknowledged policy of not making motorcyclists remove lids. Though I don't trust supermarket fuel particularly
Total have a draconian lids off policy and tend to employ knuckle dragging morons - I've long boycotted their filling stations.
Read somewhere that unless it's explicitly stated on or near the pumps that you won't be served if you don't remove your lid, they haven't got a leg to stand on. Most annoying is when they authorize the pump, they berate you for not removing your lid when you go to pay.
This lids off bollocks is just another load of nanny state nonsense. The very idea of being asked to remove your lid at a petrol station would have seemed ridiculous not long ago. ____________________ The RXS100: vehicle of choice for Chuck Norris |

Defeats the whole purpose of pay at pump I would have thought, it is supposed to be independant of approval from the kiosk monkeys surely?
Hasn't happened to me in a long time, but another vote here for dropping the pump on the floor and buggering off. Would love to see it happen, now i've got the Enfield. Not something your average troublesome yoot is likely to be riding.
Just another overly corporate policy creating a problem/solution out of something that was never a problem in the first place.
As for the age excuse, when was it their job to enforce the age thing, you can buy petrol at 16, are you going to be on a motorbike if you are younger than that? Slim chances i'd say, though not impossible. It's like the self important people at the post office issuing a tax disc, giving it the big eyeball over your insurance certificate/mot. Who has never stood there thinking, "do you even know what you are looking at on there" as they have that glazed over expression.
One thing guaranteed to piss me off is when attempting to reason with someone they will just hold their hands up, "not me mate, elf and safety" or "company policy". Were these morons born with the ability to think or have they completely surrendered their independence to planet tesco?
Pretty sure it always comes down to somebody having told you to do something, you didnt comply, they feel slighted, and thus more problems ensue as their pride is damaged. Everybody in these positions likes to have power over somebody else, a desire in magnitude usually inversely proportional to the actual importance of the job. ____________________ So in other words, he stopped you for being flagrantly in posession of a motorcycle in direct contravention of the Hippies, Darkies and People Whose Face I Don't Like The Look of (Police Powers) Act. 1976 |

Good luck with that in the central Lakes. They won't authorise the pump in most places unless you remove your lid. As a matter of fact, I've been halfway through filling up and had one of them cut the pump off then gesticulate at me through the window..
I just make sure I have enough fuel to get through and out the other side. Mind you, I tend to stay away from the lakes because it's full of arrogant soutern wankers with matching fleeces, a selfish attitude and flash cars they have no idea how to drive.
Mind you, if it's a fine day tomorrow, I might go through the central lakes road and see how long a queue of motorhomes and tour coaches I can pick-up behind the Enfield. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. We have a petrol station still like that around here, they claim you can't fill up yourself because their insurance won't allow it.
There is also a per person ration between tanker deliveries, though how they enforce that I have no idea, as apparently they can not get an articulated tanker in there (which I am very dubious about, unless that is some safety or other policy of the fuel company).
I don't use them because its about 30p more per litre than anywhere else. Bit posh around here, lots of flash rich London commuting bastards, so they obviously do enough business to survive.[/quote] ____________________ So in other words, he stopped you for being flagrantly in posession of a motorcycle in direct contravention of the Hippies, Darkies and People Whose Face I Don't Like The Look of (Police Powers) Act. 1976 |
