About five minutes ago, coming home from a really short (5 min) trip I encountered one of our road network's finest arse holes.

At a mini roundabout I was turning right, I looked right, indicated, got to the roundabout, slowed, looked right and went round the dot before turning right.

Unfortunately, the arse behind me failed to see either of the two checks, the indicators, or the turning motion I was making and decided to drive up the inside of the mini roundabout (you know, the wrong way round) and then seemed surprised to see they were on a collision course with me. They slammed on their brakes (without a care for the people behind) and glared at me.

I don't mind people going over the dot but people just ignoring the roundabout rules (which is why we have mini roundabouts, to enforce roundabout rules on a small junction) and cutting in before the dot is dangerous, could have knocked me off.

This has happened like five times, I'm always very cautious of that roundabout.

So, tell us about your encounters with some of Britain's finest dickhole drivers...

On the flipside
I was riding with my friend yesterday and he changed lane and I nearly blindly followed him into the other lane as it seemed clear, did a left shoulder check and there was a car right there in my blind spot, let him get in front of me and broke the paired convoy, then they pulled right out to the left and slowed down to let me pass and catch up with my buddy, I think they appreciated the fact I didn't just cut them off dangerously Thumbs Up

roundabouts are the worse, so many people seem to fail at them it's bad, constantly in the wrong lanes, not indicating, then pulling out in front of me

I drive paranoid on roundabouts

Every two days, on the way home from work I fill up at the local petrol station.

I turn off the main road home, go down a steep hill and the garage is at the bottom of the hill on the left. The forecourt is situated on the LHS corner of an old T-junction which is now a mini-roundabout. To enter the forecourt you have to turn left at the mini roundabout and do an immediate left again. It has been this layout for 15+ years.

So every two nights, almost without fail, some nobchomper tailgates me down the hill, almost rams me as I slow for the roundabout as the other entry is obscured by foliage, then almost rams me again as I slow for the entrance for the forecourt. It makes no difference if I indicate twice, use arm signals, literally crawl from roundabout to entrance etc etc. And yet they glare at me.

So from looking at the statistics before us, roundabouts are the root of all evil

No. As anyone who has driven in America will tell you.

Consider the alternative of a 4-way stop:

Just read your other thread - I can't believe no one suggested use the right lane until after the first exit then use your superior acceleration to find a gap and move left.

That's the kind of roundabout I really love - it makes me feel like I'm really making progress against the other [s]competitors[/s] road users.

I'm usually going to fast to have people bother me from behind at a roundabout Laughing

When I was in America for a few months and had never encountered these before I was as confused as hell. Apparently pedestrians waiting to cross also have to be taken into account rather than making them wait until the road is clear.

On the other hand they actually had a roundabout in the city, was funny to watch Americans get confused when they had to drive round it.

They did Laughing

And that is the correct way to use that roundabout coming off at that exit. The problem is cagers use the left lane to come off at the 2nd exit which is where I nearly die everyday. Laughing

This is the bane of my life:

https://maps.google.co.uk/?ll=54.883253,-1.423086&spn=0.001041,0.00327&hnear=Sunderland,+Tyne+and+Wear,+United+Kingdom&t=k&z=19&layer=c&cbll=54.883381,-1.423488&panoid=SVawhLZoAW0gQUChDWYOJA&cbp=12,209.35,,0,0

Its the A690 from Sunderland > Durham

It has a "No Car Lane" running pretty much all the way from Sunderland city centre to that roundabout ^^^

I only use the lane if turning left at that roundabout. That being said, it is horrendous for cars who don't bother to check their mirrors who also want to turn left and just pull straight over after the "No Car Lane" finishes.

The stupid thing is right next to the road is a police station Confused You would of thought people would be more diligent around it..... but no.

A couple of weeks an oldish bloke started to pull across as I was right next to him. I blipped the horn, he sharpish corrected what he was doing. I continued, shook my head a bit. Turned left and then about 200 yards down the road indicated to turn right and moved into the centre bit. He flies down the inside of me cuts straight across me making me swerve into the oncoming lane and pulls up just after the right turn. He starts gesturing me pull over, which I duly obliged.

I'm guessing he thought because I was on the 125 (still had the L plates on) I was some 17 y/o. So pulled over he starts shouting at me saying I should of gave way to him and he was a "biker". He got a bit of a shock when I took my helmet off, mid correcting him he ran back to his car and sped off. Grrrrrrr'ing cager idiot.

Bloody hell, some people are nuts, bad enough making a mistake, he could have accepted it and used it as a learning point. "But I'm too old to learn, not gonna be in the wrong against a *SPITS* YOUUNG PERSON!"

Reminds me of when I was around 15, some old prick nearly killed me and my bro as we crossed the road, honking at us going about 50 in a 20 zone (no shit). My bro walked up to the crest of a hill and began *ahem* 'gesturing' toward him.

The guy stopped the car in the middle of the road, lept out (engine still running) and began to run up the hill shouting "come here you little shit, making those signs at me, come here".

Not being a total fucking fool, my bro ran like hell as this angry old bastard ran at him with murder in his eyes. What was he going to do, beat up a 15 year old in the middle of a busy high street?

Total morons out on the road!

I retract my statement about roundabouts by the way, 4-way intersections look deadly.

Roundabouts are a fantastic piece of road design. Unfortunately, they are used by humans - and therein lies the problem!

One that always makes me chuckle is a mini-roundabout close by my house. It has 3 roads leading to it, and every now and then 3 cars arrive at the same time all wanting to turn right.

Nobody can go, because they have to give way to someone who is (in turn) having to give way to someone else.

So, everyone stops, and just looks at each other, waiting for someone to go first. Eventually someone decides to go - but, inevitably the others have decided to go at the same time.

Everyone lurches forward a foot, then stops, then looks at each other again.....then lurches forward again, stops, and looks.....

It's quite entertaining to watch.

Exactly this happens to the one near my house like 1 in 5 times I use it. Funny, I just exercise my right to turn, better to stand out as being inconsiderate on a bike than not stand out anyway
