I ride a CB500 and recently I have been feeling the gears grind together when shifting. This is especially noticeable when moving around 1st and 2nd gears, and is probably less so because I'm changing quite tenderly between higher gears so the gears change more easily.

Can anyone identify a part of the clutch that is obviously worn out that I might be able to change myself, or how I can go about taking it apart and fault finding?

Unfortunately I don't have any proper garage space at the moment. Am I better off asking a mechanic to sort the clutch out and avoid any total disasters? I am quite keen to learn more and more about servicing the bike myself.

+1, start with the basics, do you have a workshop manual for the bike?

I've already done that it's definitely not the cable.

What I really need is to be confident that it's a clutch problem before I take everything apart and have a look. I believe that it could also be in the gears or gear change lever.

I have the Haynes manual for the '93 to '01 CB500 twin if you want? It's in pdf format, and I'm just uploading it to a server now. I'll post a link up here once it's up...

Here you go
