My wife fell asleep on my back on the motorway. Crazy girl. She stayed on fine though, her lid was resting on my back.

I found being pillion rather boring the one time I was.

A friend took me out on his Daytona 675.
It was reasonably good fun pulling away, but you don't feel as connected to the bike.

On motorways it was the most boring experience imaginable, mostly because you can't bloody see past the back of the other person's helmet.

The view is a problem for pillions. Maybe one of those king/queen seats to improve the view ahead. Intercom can help. A bit of banter passes the time (intercom on light circuit so can always switch it off). Giving a heads-up on what's coming up to look out for. Useful for when approaching sleeping policemen too. Intercom with music is also good but from my point of view hearing my daughter singing along isn't always the best.

I can honestly say your wife has never said that to me Wink lol

My O/H has occasionally rested her head against my back when we're on a long motorway run - but I don't think she's ever admitted to falling asleep though...
To be honest, the majority of the time I try to plan ahead for longer journeys so that we can avoid staying on the motorway for any extended length of time

I had an ex that would fall asleep on the back of the bike on motorways all the time, it was obvious when she had as I suddenly had extra weight pushing on my back!

I think motorways are just boring in general. Not much you can do about it other than some of the pillion to rider coms things suggested above.

I don't see why trying to read your Kindle is dangerous. Impractical, maybe, but not dangerous.

I have had a few ladies fall asleep on the back of the bike. One lady decided to read the instructions on a condom box and then put it infront of me to read while I was riding down the motorway. well she thought it was funny.
I have found that an intercom helps pillions as you can chat away or listen to music.

A friend had a vfr750 with a top box and armrest bits for the pillion. I fell asleep after 10 miles and woke up at the petrol station 160 miles down the road.

Don't see why you couldn't use a kindle, except for the gloves touch screen problem.

Only the very new kindles use a touch screen, you can still buy non touch screen models.

You could always try the text to speech, or stick an audio book on there (headphones required obviously).
I wouldn't be able to read a Kindle due to the vibration though, maybe humungous text would help?.

I can't read in a vehicle when it's going as it makes me feel ill!!

If I ever ride pillion on my fellas bike, I like to stroke the sausage and give him a rod on. Makes him go faster Wink

My Uncles girlfriend takes a cheap digital camera and gets some really good photos as pillion when touring around.

She takes a cheap one because if she drops it off the bike then its no great loss

I can't imagine anyone wanting to be hooked up to me when I'm out riding...I talk and sing so much...I'm sure to put 'whoever' was listening off pace. Laughing

I one of those sometimes and my pillions have to pay attention, anything else and it would get unpleasant with helmets banging for starters.

A good pillion can save your life, not just as a second set of eye's.
As one whose done it, steering the bike from the back, I'd just dropped a bike off at Bike Business in Portsmouth and the boss got one of the mechanics to give me a lift home on his (the bosses) V-Max, going up the M275 where it splits to go East or West he was 'asleep', doing 70+++ heading directly for the pointy bit of Armco in the middle, by shifting my weight I got the bike to go left into the curve, as we passed the pointy bit he 'woke-up' and bloody nearly dropped it by slamming the throttle shut in panic!
