...or something.
Just got back from my CBT. Oh my.
The classroom bit wasn't too bad and didn't seem to be too long. When we got to actually sit on the bikes (mine was a Honda CG) I had the sudden thought that maybe I shouldn't be thinking about big bike DAS. It's was a little 125, it seemed mahooosive.
Anyway we did the car park bit with the cones, I do appear to have some clutch control issues that I do need to sort out so will actually go for a bit of extra training I think. I'm concerned that if I just practice I'll be learning/engraining bad habits. The trainer did mention that the bigger bikes are easier, but I really think I should fix the problem.
I also had another issue where I was covering the front brake and clutch - he said he wasn't sure how I was managing to ride like that but that it would be a pretty instant fail in a test because "you can't be in control of the bike like that". When we went out on the road, I wasn't really doing it at all.
After the car parky bit we split into 2 groups of 2. Our trainer took us out on some country roads to start with. I swear to you I was screaming in my helmet with joy as we swept around the corners. Probably a good job that it we didn't have 2-way radios (unidirectional). We went through some villages - It was fantastic. We stopped at some shops for a chat about how we felt. When we took our helmets off both of us being trained had massive grins on our faces. We knew that what we just did was what it's all about. It was totally fscking amazing.
Then we did some 'about town' work - not as much fun, but kind of essential I know.
The trainer said we both had good road positioning and he was pleased with our life savers and observations. I did have some issues with finding neutral when we stopped, it seemed to take me ages to get it. Strangely, cancelling my indicators wasn't an issue. Got a tip from the trainer, basically said that when you change into 2nd and release the clutch just tap the button "You can't over cancel them"
The other student and I chatted for about half an hour after we got our certs. We both want to do big bike DAS, I think we might end up doing it at the same time. Both of us were pretty pumped but it was quite tiring 8am start, 3pm end.
I know I'm going to love this....
I do wish that ~25 years ago when I first got on a bike, the CBT had been around and forced on us. That way I wouldn't have just jumped on a bike with no training and I wouldn't have ended up being hit by a truck and not getting back on a bike for 25 years. 25 wasted years

Glad you enjoyed it, but a 125 felt massive? How short are you? ____________________ 'Allo! My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die!

I did my CBT yesterday too. It was very frustrating. I couldnt get things to come together at first, and by dinnertime I was adamant I wasnt going out on the road, but after a coffee and a chat, I did, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I know I need a lot more practice and experience, but I still passed I think I will get a 125 for a while and run around on that before going for DAS. I'm determined to do it - even if I am a girl...lol |

It's quite funny looking at you guys get this excited about 125s. Not knocking it, i was exactly the same, and grinned like an idiot all the time. But, just wait until you've finished your DAS, get on a big bike and really give it some beans. It's a whoooollleeee new world on this side
Speaking of which. I always thought it would be a good idea for local people to get together and help others out. For example, if there were any newbies in the Bournemouth area, i'd happily come say hello, let you have a poke around my bike, and even take you for a spin on the back. I know i'd have loved something like that when i was getting going over a year ago now. ____________________ Current bike: ZX6R J1
