The std 485cc big bore kit takes the NS400 engine from around 55bhp at r/w, to 70bhp. Add the bigger carbs, pipes and tuning, and that bike will almost certainely be over 80bhp at the back wheel. Tuned 500cc kitted NS400's can make 90bhp r/w, so would be possibly 100-105bhp at the crank?

Want more than that, and you'll need an RD/RG500 engine to play with, and a silly budget to throw at it too!

For the road, I'd have more fun on that than a gxr, then again, not overly impressed with plus 100 mph .... Or the lack of reaction time it gives you.

Id agree entirely, and it just so happens that i always thought that the NS400R was the best overall bike out of the three GP replica for the road bikes in the 80's. The truth of the matter was that for general day to day riding the GPZ600R was faster for most of the time, and for the least effort, and much lower running costs.

These stroker's were always very flawed, but still very exciting and they all have silly unlocked potential with rediculous budgets that is. Im not sure where the bhp/kg limits are these days with modded Litre sports bikes, but a 160bhp/140kg RG570 has been done many years ago.

It's a very nice bit of kit, I'd love a go on one just to see how they felt.

As for tuning, there is a fair bit you can do on 4 strokes as well, if you've got the money you should be able to get a modern 1000 to ~210bhp.

in practical sportsbikes they tested a bigbore nsr400 against a rg 500 that was standard thing the tired rg lost

I read that test as well. But the MCN tests i have for the 3 bikes from back in early 80's, show the RG500 to be nearly 20mph faster than the Honda in the best one way runs.

People have always gone on about how the RG500 only makes 70-75bhp and not the 95bhp that Suzuki claimed. Then they get all mixed up with back wheel/vs crank power figures (the magazines are notorious for this error, often mixing up the crank bhp of one bike with a rear wheel reading for another, and not even bothering to sate which was which).

I personally cannot see how every NS/RD/RG tested back in the day by every magazine could have been factory tuned to +20bhp over std. Of course i could be wrong, but nobody can reall prove this or otherwise now.

For some reason, not sure why, but it doesn't seem 'trick' enough.

In my eyes, even standard NSR250 MC28s are pieces of art, with a beautiful HRC meticulous finish and level of detail, an air of pedigree and function over form to them despite their restricted road motors.

Perhaps this example looks better under its Tyga fairings - but where's the magnesium, carbon and titanium, where's the Showa/Ohlins, Brembos, the mag or carbon wheels, why's it got mirrors and lights..... where's the 5bhp-liberating HRC sweatbands?

It will never be that trick though!
It was built as a road bike using a normal NC30 chassis and an NS400 engine. The cost of the build was probably quite reasonable compared to what an MC28 NSR would cost.
If your wanting carbon, magnesium, dry race clutch's and the like your looking at the wrong bike.

It would be like looking at an RGV250 converted with an RG500 engine, and saying it doesn't look quite as trick as a factory RGV500 race bike
