Variable speed limit signs with gatsos behind?

People can get done for doing over the national speed limit on them.

Think Robby might have in the past?

However I think they still use film gatsos, so it's pretty unlikely.

I try not to go through any speed camera at over the speed limit regardless of the situation. Also overly-paranoid about random vans parked on bridges etc.

Pfft M25 I have no idea where the cameras are... M20 ones are Jct 3, 4, 6 and 7.

I hopefully did nothing wrong this weekend...unless Blackwolf went through some speedies

So following bcf bbq 2012 we all came to the conclusion we have all gone through the gantries on the motorways at quite a bit over without quite realising they have cameras or if they where live.

Question is anyone had a nip from passing one when the sign wasn't iluminated? if so what speed?

looking at getting over 100 points myself if they do, rob, blue, drake, pyro, chris all in same boat lol

Not all of them have cameras, and I've never been done breaking the NSL on one. I've been very lucky though...

If it's the gantries near Heathrow airport, I'm sure they've been deactivated, but left in place.

I've been through them a lot over a period of 3-4 years and never heard a peep.

Never had a problem with them, myself. Having said that, I'm not all that interested in breaking the ton repeatedly.

I've seen loads of people go past those gantries on my way to/from an airport run at over 90+, nobody seems to care about them, and they never seem to flash, but I still don't speed past them, 'cos you never know.
They do have the calibration markings on the road so they are cameras.

M25, unless they have turned the digital (which a lot are now) then they don't really bother putting film in as it will use it all in about an hour

There isn't a film fast enough to catch me though.

Cool

I thought I read a while ago the M25 cameras were changed to be digital:

https://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f2/m25-digital-speed-cameras-go-live-51745.html
https://www.visordown.com/motorcycle-news--general-news/variable-speed-cameras-to-be-activated-on-m25/3644.html

Hopefully that info is wrong and you're all OK Karma

I've seen the ones near heathrow flash for people exceeding the posted (sub NSL) limit.

If there was no flash I would expect you're ok. The passed on wisdom from my colleagues was that they're only active when illuminated. My old boss was a habitual speeder and particularly bad at seeing yellow boxes. He had 9 points from 5 offences (speed course and managed to combine two tickets into one at court otherwise it'd be 15). He used that section of road often and ignored the gantries.

Having read through some off that it seems they aren't switched off when not illuminated (like I thought), but there is a margin of at least 10mph.

There does seem to be a consensus that they flash though! Did anyone get flashed from the BBQ?

I've often wondered about this, I regularly speed past them and haven't had anything.

Thumbs Up

Yes, they do flash - and you're more likely to see the flash in bad weather - water for it to reflect off and less ambient light in the first place.

As far as I know, speed cameras are only active when variable speed limit is in force. Or atleast the cameras on the M1 are.

This is what I heard about the m25 ones too, I've been through the east bound ones at over 80 a few times, but I was keeping up with traffic and it was set at nsl, never received a ticket.
