Yup, there is a radio vote going around that they want to ban "high powered motorcycles" from "wrecking the sound throughout british countryside"

There is an online vote here:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/vine/

Please everyone go vote NO obviously, even tho no is already at 97% might as well get more votes behind it.

Cant believe people think like this... you can listen to the whole radio show if you like too..

That's pretty pathetic. Not all high powered motorcycles are noisy, people riding not so powerful bikes can be noisier. I know my RS50 was nothing but noise.
Really don't see the point in banning it, it's not ruining the sound of countryside at all. How many agricultural vehicles do you know that aren't quiet?

Thumbs Down

Put my vote down for no obviously.

I think the only bike to do 180+ is the busa (stock). Now you would never find a busa going down country lane, because thay cant go round corners! Laughing

Sounds like bollocks to me.

Although I can kind of relate to what they are saying, some people do seem to find it nessasary to rev their engines and do backfires while passing through small villages. Rolling Eyes

I actually agree there Dusty, I'm guilty of it to Confused

Last monday on way to hastings at 9 am, mates bandit 12 with some SERIOUSLY LOUD CANS parked on the pavement outside some houses (literally under the window ) and decided to give it a quick rev

what he didnt realise is someone was at the upstairs window just as he done it Laughing

Just goes to show that general bikes can be annoying around town etc but what, ban bikes from town? Rolling Eyes

I generally think that race cans should only be used with care.

I reckon if the government upped the noise limit to the level of the quietest of race-cans, no one would go around with LOUD cans.

They would be happy with a slightly frutier tone than standard, the race can manufacturers wouldn't go out of business and people wouldn't have offensively loud cans.

People will always want offensively loud cans. I mean take Zimma for example, he bought some fairly loud cans for his already pretty loud bike, but then also felt it was necessary to cut them in half and make them ridiculously loud. Laughing

Whatever the limit people will always endeavor to brake it.

Camera catches noisy vehicles
By CARLY CRAWFORD
02 May 04

HOT-HEADED drivers who generate loud, irritating engine noise could soon be hunted down and fined with the help of a new "noise camera".

The hi-tech camera, developed in South Australia with funding from Victoria, can be programmed to detect a range of vehicle noises, from thundering exhausts to screeching brakes.

It is being tested in NSW, where authorities are focusing on noisy trucks, but developers say its potential extends much further.

National Transport Commission program manager Tim Eaton said the technology could be adapted to detect the trademark grunt of a Harley Davidson motorcycle. Or it could be programmed to pick up the explosive sound of revheads changing gears in cars that had been modified with pop-off valves.

"You could ultimately program it to pick up any sound signature you want," Mr Eaton said.

The device is a camera with a microphone attached.

The microphone records a sound, which is analysed by internal software and if it breaches designated limits, the camera records a picture of the vehicle's number plate.

Police can then fine the registered owner.

VicRoads contributed $10,000 towards developing the new noise test for trucks.

So why try ban loud motorcycles when cars are/can be just as loud?
Really is pathetic. Fair enough some people live in the middle of no where down a country lane and like the peace and quiet but your never going to get it peaceful 24/7.
What If your your only way to a destination is down a country road? Surely they're not going to stop you using that road just because your vehicle makes a bit of noise.

Middle Finger to the Government!

Do all country roads have corners you have to take at about 30mph? I think not.

AFAIK I think you need a licence to have a certain time to use shotguns If it's near a town/village etc.
If it's right out of the way it's not a problem as they usually have purpose built places.

Plane's aren't overly noisy, and you can't hear them for miles. Well they are miles away but shhh.
Helicopter's are in the same area.

Tractor's use country roads near enough everyday. They're big noisy and I think they should only be used during certain hours. From living on a farm for 6 years, it was usually something like 7 or 8 'til about 5 except for the harvest which went on 'til a bit later.

Car's are/can be noisy and it's usually only boy racer's with their 10inch exhausts or anyone's car with a blown exhaust.

I don't think they should ban motorcyles using country roads.

And Dean your right, BBC can't exactly do anything unless they get people that can involved.

Thats just stupid. You cannot ban bikes from the countryside, surely the emmisions from a bike are less, so the loud noise is just a bi product of a cleaner environment?

They will not be able to ban bikes from the country side as it is against human rights to a extent freedom of movement etc.

I obviously don't hear many. My point was that you dont hear them for aslong as you do any noisy car/bike/vehicle.
