Ducati Factory 2012 - Bologna, Italy

Hi all

So earlier this year in May it was me and the girlfriends 6 years together so thought we would go away for it. We thought about Italy which got me to thinking I could tie in the Ducati factory if we go Bologna

We didn't have to pay much for a guided tour of the factory and the museum they have there. I would recommend it to anyone and would happily go back.

The factory tour was immense, I could have stayed for hours just watching engines being built or the bikes on the production line to them being tested on the dyno.

Few interesting facts I learn't:

Ducati first made Sewing machines before moving eventually onto motorbikes.
Over 42,000 motorbikes were produced at the factory in 2010 making it a record for them.
Each engine is built by only two people from start to finish. (Engines from decades ago can be traced to the two people that built it)
Each engine takes 50 minutes to make.
For the rest of the bike six people are used. (each assigned to the bikes, as with the engines)
From start to finish no machines are used, it's all handmade.
At the factory there is 1000 staff, 30% are women (Must have a big kitchen?)
100 of the 1000 staff work in their 'Area 51' for the MotoGP etc.

This bike they showed a video, when coming to a stop on the track you would see the mechanics run over to him to stop it falling over as he couldn't put his feet down

Awesome pictures! I did the museum (and a small part of the factory) tour in 2009. I wanted to be shown around the factory itself but they wouldn't allow it
They still haven't changed that MDF top yoke on that race bike

Are they showing people around the factory at the moment ? i heard they stopped because of the earthquakes ?
