Hi all

So earlier this year in May it was me and the girlfriends 6 years together so thought we would go away for it. We thought about Italy which got me to thinking I could tie in the Ducati factory if we go Bologna Razz

We didn't have to pay much for a guided tour of the factory and the museum they have there. I would recommend it to anyone and would happily go back.

The factory tour was immense, I could have stayed for hours just watching engines being built or the bikes on the production line to them being tested on the dyno.

Few interesting facts I learn't:

Arrow Ducati first made Sewing machines before moving eventually onto motorbikes.
Arrow Over 42,000 motorbikes were produced at the factory in 2010 making it a record for them.
Arrow Each engine is built by only two people from start to finish. (Engines from decades ago can be traced to the two people that built it)
Arrow Each engine takes 50 minutes to make.
Arrow For the rest of the bike six people are used. (each assigned to the bikes, as with the engines)
Arrow From start to finish no machines are used, it's all handmade.
Arrow At the factory there is 1000 staff, 30% are women (Must have a big kitchen?)
Arrow 100 of the 1000 staff work in their 'Area 51' for the MotoGP etc.

Now for some pictures of the museum (no pictures could be taken in the factory Sad ) Also saw Rossi's MotoGP bike ready to be shipped out under a dust cover Thumbs Up

This bike they showed a video, when coming to a stop on the track you would see the mechanics run over to him to stop it falling over as he couldn't put his feet down Laughing

Awesome pictures! I did the museum (and a small part of the factory) tour in 2009. I wanted to be shown around the factory itself but they wouldn't allow it Sad
They still haven't changed that MDF top yoke on that race bike Very Happy

Cheers, wish I could have stayed longer just to watch everything going on. Just seeing how it all goes together or someone walking past you with trolley of 20 sets of Ohlins forks Drooling

Ah right, you can book online before you go and they do a few tours a day now. I think if I went next time I'd tie in the Ferrari factory which isn't too far away.

Do ittttttttt!

If you remember the two earthquakes in May, I went 3 days after the first one and was there for the 2nd one and wasn't affected. I hadn't heard they had stopped doing tours?

Sorry but I find that one hard to believe.

There is handmade and handmade. Handmade as in put together by a person or hand made as in a person uses a machine to make a better job. Which is different from letting a robot machine just put it together (but then who programmes the robot? Confused)

On topic ish when I went out to Modena many years ago there was a car show on. Now given how close it is to the Ferrari factory all the Italians were interested in were a couple of E-Type Jags that'd parked up.

Just shows what's desirable to some is just common muck to others Very Happy

Sorry should have put all hand built? No machines are involved in putting the bikes together? Machining the parts then yes.

I suppose they would have seen them all then to see a Jag pull up is pretty random and rare for them!

Wouldn't mind Ducati or Ferrari on my doorstep though! Mr. Green
