Anyone know where I can buy a good quality office chair? All the ones I saw where cheap and crappy. My Budget is about £200, I can't seem to find any shops that sell them, I would rather try before I buy than buy online.

I got a Herman Miller Mira second hand for that sort of money - best office chair I've ever sat in.

There were plenty going for around that sort of price on ebay, so I just waited for one near enough to collect.

In my experience, anything that fits your budget new won't be that great quality as 'real' office chairs are expensive - but it depends if you're wanting it for a couple of hours use per day or (like me) 8, 10, 12 hours a day.

Ikea's worth a look for new - not amazing but not bad. See if there are any second hand office supply shops around where you can go sit in some used stuff, long-term it's a much better investment.

I had a bit of a time looking for one a few years ago, nearly all in the up to £60 range are hard, unpleasant fake leather. I eventually found one that was real leather and soft and comfortable, sold new from someone who'd just bought it. It's a staples one but one of the more expensive ones as I looked at staples chairs and they were also the crappy plastic. Go in and have a look at them then look for one on ebay. Ikea sell some good ones too I think but they're pricey.

It is an 8 hours a day chair for the most part, maybe more. I'll look for the Herman Miller Mia ones, and keep and eye out in staples.

I worked for Herman Miller for 5 years, all of which was spent sat in Aerons. If you can stretch to it, get one. You won't think "OMG THIS CHAIR IS MADE OF TEH WIN!!11!!oneoneone" but you can spend all day sat in one and not notice, that is what makes them superb chairs.

Edit: One thing to note, look out for cheap busted HM chairs, you can buy pretty much every part still and they are generally very easy to fix!

It's not a bad idea really, car seats are cheap and you could even hook an electrically adjustable/heated one up to a 12v adaptor. They are big and bulky though and would need some kind of armrests fitting as well as a heavy duty base.

I use a ikea poang swivel chair as an office chair. Comfy, and reclines nicely but not super ideal as I had to lower my desk to match its height (its a reclining living room chair and hence lower than a desk chair).

I'd like a chair made out of a car seat though - something sporty and leather.

I'm still using my mate's that I inherited when he died. It still has the smell of his den/office on it, which always puts a melancholy smile on my face when I cop a whiff.

He was older than me by 16 years, an ex 60's 'pop' star (Dave Lane). If you think I'm anti-establishment...ooh, I was his disciple. Laughing
