Bought CG today, speedo not working.

Stripped down to try to find cause and struggling.

The little gold bearing type thing in the drum, when turned by hand, makes the speedo wire connector turn but when all put back together and wheel turned, there's nothing.

So I think the problem lies between the wheel itself and the gold part in the front drum?

Yes, the 'gold thing' (speedo drive) has probably worn down to such an extent that it's not contacting the lugs in the wheel that spin it. You need a new speedo drive. Won't cost much off an old CG125, or you can fork out for a new one.

Either that, or someone's put it back together wrong in the past.

On mine the crown gear which drives the speedo had broken in the wheel... assuming you have an old one with drum brakes like mine.

Fins on the speedo drive were slightly bent upwards so were missing and not turning. My good friend the hammer sorted than and now working. Thumbs Up

Front brake's crap now though. Shoes look like they've got plenty of life and had a pay with the cable etc but not got anywhere. Any ideas?

If it was ok before you took it apart... Smile

You'll need to be a bit more descriptive though, crap because it doesn't work? or grabs? or is stiff?

It was bad but not as bad - there's nothing there now!

Pull the brake all the way back and the bike just keeps on going Laughing

Squeaking ?

I guess you've probably not done the adjuster nut up far enough.

To be fair chaps I've not really looked at it yet. Just went out yesterday on it and had to use back brake everywhere Laughing

Adjuster nut thread has gone, where can I pick one up? Even so, I think it's right at the end of the screw so wouldn't have much of an effect?

You need to adjust the thread on the cable on the brake lever all the way in and then tighten the nut on the wheel hub until the brake begins to be effective and then fine tune it by turning the thread out on the lever.

Also make sure that all the wheel spacers as that can cause similar symptoms.
