Having had a rather nice successful print of a case for Robby, and having cleared it with Korn, I'm now selling Raspberry Pi cases to BCF members, if you guys want them.
They're not without a few minor defects, but in the famous words of Edward Norton in fight club, it just shows that they're manufactured by the indigenous peoples of wherever.
Either way, I'm intending to modify and develop the case, so it's got better support for the SD card, and possibly a holster for more cards, if it's a popular design desicion.

At the moment, I've got enough filament for one or two clear ones, and a lot of yellow ones, although the yellow filament's prone to bubbling a bit. I'll be getting some more filament in the week - specifically, white and black reels. I'll need to recalibrate the printer a bit for the new filament, so there may be a short lead time on the prints.
The price will be a tenner per case, and they'll be printed on a first come first serve basis - there's currently one person in the queue, so he's getting sorted first.
Any takers?

In truth, Ste nicked it from 4chan, so I think we're going to get locked into a long and painful cycle of suit and counter-suit.
So I'm guessing that this makes Ste Samsung, CaNsA Apple, and 4chan Motorola. ____________________ '10 SV650SF, '83 GS650GT (it lives!), Questionable DIY dash project, 3D Printer project, Lasercutter project |

Cool.
Incidentally, I'd just like to let you guys know that the basic design for this isn't my work - it's from a website called Thingiverse, and it's object number 24721. I'll be adapting it over time, and will put up the modified design on there, too. If there's anything on there that anyone particularly wants printed, give me a shout.
As a rule, most things can be printed, provided they can fit into a 14*14cm square - that means that the longest tip-to-tip measurement of a thin object can be around 19cm, provided it's got a sharp taper. ____________________ '10 SV650SF, '83 GS650GT (it lives!), Questionable DIY dash project, 3D Printer project, Lasercutter project |

lol perhaps edit the links from your earlier post into your first post nowhere?
although considering the coverage the Pi's have been getting its quite amazing to see "whats a pi case" or "whats a pi" questions around.
raspberry Pi = £39 (rounded up and including postage) credit card sized computer that runs off a SD card loaded with a linux image. using a ARM6 (?) processor and capable of putting out 1080p natively along with analogue video output.
you need to buy a keyboard, mouse, sd card, power supply (5v 1amp apple charger with usb to micro usb cable is perfect) and the usual other bits. hdmi cable and a POWERED usb hub. DO NOT USE A UNPOWERED ONE.
or if you fancy being ripped off. go to maplin and buy a complete kit for £70 lol
HTH
nowhere:
might be worth designing a case to hold a 2.5" hdd, clips a usb hub and slot into and a couple of lugs with holes so that you can mount it to your VESA fittings but without it interfearing with the mount so if you happen to use a wall mount or monitor arm mount it can still be used
just some ideas to throw around. ____________________ BCF's biggest cunt list: Cansa, Pits, Rob |

Gentlemen, your cases await you.
https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8306/7914109284_3ec315b973_z.jpg
Two words of warning; One: when gluing the case halves together, you'll need to hold it under a little tension, and Two: the plastic is fairly brittle, so when I say 'a little tension', I mean a little tension. Rubber bands will suffice for this - anything more than that is overkill.
There are a couple of parts which are only one perimeter thick, so don't be expecting this to be as tough as your average flight cases. However, it does do the job of insulating a Pi from the various dangers of one's desk admirably.
You may encounter what look like hairs on some of the prints; don't worry, I've not given it the colin1 cleaning regimen, it's a feature of the plastic filament - it's not top-quality stuff, so is a bit prone to stranding like that.
When closing the cases together, I recommend either an all-purpose adhesive like this stuff, or you can weld it together with a soldering iron. In my experience, gluing it together's easier, and you tend to get a better finish.
One final thing - I did find that these printed cases tend to highlight the sometimes poor build quality of the raspberry pi - in the case of mine, the RCA socket is wonky, meaning that I'll have to re-solder it for any case to fit properly. ____________________ '10 SV650SF, '83 GS650GT (it lives!), Questionable DIY dash project, 3D Printer project, Lasercutter project |

I can honestly say I have seen only the sketchiest piece on the news (watch bbc news24 most mornings) regarding the Pi, I've seen nothing in the paper about the Pi (read the independent most days), in fact, were it not for the the odd thread on here and a couple of mates on facebook, I doubt I would know what one is. Actually, now I mention it, apart from being a very small computer, I have no idea what one actually does or why it does it, nor do I have any intention of finding out.
What you have to remember is, there was life before computers. Personal computing is still a very new thing. We didn't have a computer in our house until I was 14 and it wasn't connected to the internet until I was 15 (28.8kbit/s) and the specs were absolutely dwarfed by todays 30quid smart phones. Many people of my generation and older still view computers with an air of suspicion. I only really started internet banking a couple of years ago, I've only just upgraded to a proper smart phone (and that is only so I can gamble using the paddy power app whilst on the move). We really couldn't give a monkeys about technical exercises making computers small enough to fit in a fag packet. The guys I'm with at uni (mostly 18year olds) laugh at me for being the way I am, but they grew up with computers, spending hours everyday on them and have never really known a world without them. Consequently, they know just what to do with computers, but often don't know which way to wipe their arse without looking it up online first.
I'm not knocking anyone who's into computers, you just have to remember that not everyone is the same. You might know what native 1080p output is (did I put that right?) and laugh at those that don't, but how many people that know what that is also know how to fix a blown fuse with fuse wire, re-wire a 3pin mains plug, mix concrete, change a bulb/exhaust/brake pads in a car without finding a guide online? The kind of stuff we were taught in school and by our dads. I might not be able to shoot for shit when playing halo, but I can build a bird table in under two hours out of scrap wood, without measuring anything (it's level too!)
So please Usually wrong, when people ask what a raspberry Pi is, don't laugh and say you're amazed they don't know. Just answer the question and feel good about the fact you've given an techno-dinosuar a little bit of insight into the crazy world of electro gimmickry.
Also, Nowhere.Elysium, they look pretty damn cool! I don't need one, but if I did, I would certainly come see you for one! ____________________ 1977 Honda CG125

i didnt mean any offence, the lol wasnt about people not knowing but more lack of use of google. it seems the norm for people on here to google first then ask. sorry for confusion.
also, yes you got the 1080p bit right (incase you dont know, it means it will put out HD quality images as its normal settings, also known as default or native settings)
the point of the Pi is to get them into schools and teach kids programming. but they released the model b early because of general public demand. lots of uses for it. learning to program, using it as a media center, home automation, robotics, all kinds of cool gadgetry.
im using mine as a media center but still learning to program on it as well due to getting a little 16x2 lcd display to work on it. ____________________ BCF's biggest cunt list: Cansa, Pits, Rob |
