This week I was lucky enough to be given a ticket to Salon Privé by someone who was showing a bike there and couldn't make it for the last day - on the premise that I'd accept the award if it won the concours. If you haven't heard of it before - I hadn't - its an exclusive supercar/classic car/vintage bike concours show in the grounds of Syon Park in West London. There was apparently around £100m worth of supercars there. After getting Friday off work and mentally rehearsing a cover story as the wealthy owner of a chain of kebab shops I pootled off to London in my little 206. I should point out that I smashed my phone recently so didn't do a good job of framing the shots at all Embarassed

Before even getting in to the event guests could apply to park in the supercar avenue - the equivalent of the disabled spaces at Tescos. Heres a few of the successful ones:

Desmo tucked away under a tree:

A (one-off?) Zagato 550 Barchetta:

Upon actually getting in and on to 'Supercar Lawn' I did the natural thing and went straight to the complimentary Pommery champagne bar. There were some special cars there, though it wasn't half as good as the concours, but more of that later.

The Gulf collection was great, I love the colour scheme. The best was this one:

An Aston Martin One-77 on the way to the gents to get rid of some of that champagne:

A Rimac - which, though it sounds like an anal hair removal cream, is stunning and has an interesting engine. Fisker Karma in the background:

My next purchase:

After some of the complimentary lobster BBQ and some more champagne I made my way to the concours. This was where the bikes where and the was a much lower concentration of people in red trousers with first names like Tarquin or Sheik. Most of the people in this bit were proper car and bike buffs and everyone was talking to each other about them. I said hello to Steve Parrish too, he was judging and got his thoughts on some of them. Anyway, more cool stuff:

I don't think this needs much introduction, other than to say Allen Millyard recently put his shoulder out taking it around a hairpin bend because its so heavy:

Found this tucked away amongst a few abandoned GT40s around the back:

It was the 60th anniversary of the Mercedes Gullwing - there was more there than you could shake a glass of Pimms at:

This 250 California was the most striking car in the whole thing in my opinion - it won a few of the classes:

Anyway, if anyone ever gives you the chance to go, bite their hand off. Its quite special Cool

Some wonderful and lovely machinery there Thumbs Up .

I could never go to a do like that, as my eyes would be full of hate for all the hooray Henrys with all that money when I struggle to buy my lunch some days.

I like my old bangers Smile and that`s my story and I`m sticking to it Smile

The supercar section was full of them. I got talking to some very nice people around the classic stuff though, particularly the ones that actually use their cars, rather than keeping them in a sealed, heated garage all year. There were some real bike fans too, and the odd prole like me that managed to sneak in. It was certainly an experience, put it that way.
