Doing this for a customer of mine, his Smart Brabus Roadster that needs some love, nowhere near done

As the car turned up, I didn’t even bother cleaning the wheels as they were trashed

Looks a bit more respectable, though the finish has tarnished and been burnt off in places.

Now no shine, let the wet sanding begin

Looking much better!

IIRC there was quite a well-known issue with those leaking like a sieve. I quite like them, although a bit put off by the silly gearbox and usual modern electronic nonsense.

Ah you mean the auto gearbox that doesn't creep, requires you to rev the nuts of it to get it to move, or when you put it into drive it registers gear 0.

Leak like a sieve? Understatement 4 litres of water from the carpet, rear roof leaks, side of the roof leaks, windows leak, door mirrors leak, scuttle panel leaks on both sides.

It is getting there though, at a standstill at the moment waiting for parts and stuff

Which ones, theres frigging millions of the bastard things, the DC5 was one of next doors customers, I don't really bother with them, wrong wheels are driven and have the torque of a sewing machine.

Wheels are currently been diamond cut and painted, hence why I didn't bother cleaning them, let someone else do it.

Wings I am unsure, the scuff could be taken out, but the nearside wing is a different colour, though I found a company that supply the wings prepainted for £205 each so that may be an option.

Your Mini, same as this thing really, just pour a kettle over it and it is washed Thumbs Up

2. Because this is the forum it fits into the best
3. Because it is something that I suppose I am proud of, spending my time working to restore something back to what it was, using my skills and sharing them with people.
4.Because I fucking can, deal with it. Thumbs Up

So, you have valeted a squashed, 'GTi' hard-shell mobility scooter.....

When you going to put a Turbo ZZR engine in it?

THAT'S the interesting bit!

Ok Pits in all seriousness, is the clay worth the money? I have read about it but no one I know actually uses it. I normally use a shedload of elbow grease and t-cut but may well be convinved to try the clay if it works.

I also wish to know this. My car's right hand side fades pretty dramatically, and I have to polish it every 6 months, due to I guess a poor respray in it's past life.

It really annoys me, and would like something a bit easier/quicker instead of spending a good half day polishing not even half a car. Laughing

Yes clay is worth the money, it takes all the shit off before you start polishing t-cunt takes layers off the paint around the crud your trying to get rid of. I did my sis in laws civic last year, clayed, mopped and waxed although I'm having trouble finding the all the pics and it looked the dogs danglies when it was done...

Clay will not make it shine it removes fall out, tree sap, tar and any shit on the surface of the paint, after claying your car will look like this....

Yes claying is worth it, it removes all the shit attached to paintwork, helps give a deeper shine as you're not polishing shit attached to the paintwork as opposed to the paint itself

What do you mean by getting the wheels diamond cut? is it skimming the alloy?

Diamond cut is the new way of doing polished wheels, very expensive, but basically
1. What is diamond cutting? This is a process where after the wheel has been painted it is then put on a lathe and part or all of the surface of the wheel machined to leave a shiny alloy finish. It is then lacquered over to prevent corrosion.

Nice project, and i don't give a shit that it's a car instead of a bike like Banger1891 seems to have serious issues with.

The main issue with all this work, cleaning, fixing panels, paint, polishing and detailing for me is:
How the hell do you go and let someone else go off and enjoy it afterwards. For all that effort and time, id want to be the one sitting in it enjoying a gleaming car but hey!

I actually read a buyer's guide in PPC mag for these about a year ago, and some of the smart specialists raved about the roadster. Even the non Brabus ones are supposed to be alot of fun, and there is plenty you can do to improve them as well with aftermarket bits.

They hold a good bit of Value, being small, economical and fun, as well as having a bit of a brand image too.

The main reason id like to drive one though, is that one specialist said "They make you feel like a 16year old thats just had alot of sex!" Laughing
