Hi folks,

I've been toying with an idea of building my own bike from "scratch".
Going by all the stuff you can get off Ebay, etc.. I think I could do it.

But the question I want to ask is... Has anybody done this before, what about registing it for the road/track ?

Also when i get the bike built how would I go about registering the "old" frame with a different engine ?

Also Wink How much would the insurance companys sting me for ?

Give me a haynes manual and a working engine and I'm away ! Cool

Cheers all

Richard

Just make sure you get the V5/logbook with the frame, change the engine number over on the V5 for which ever engine you decide to fit and send it of to the DVLA.

If we're talking 'rebuilding' here, it's undoubtably a lot cheaper to find a knackered bike with a fair amount of the bits intact, rather than buy every bit seperately (there's a whole loada bits in a bike Smile ).

Could do that G, would be alot easier.
But I dont mind spending a few months collecting the parts as a project.

Do you know of any one who has done this sort of thing ?
Any advice would be helpful ! Thumbs Up

I was thinking of the money, not the time. Even if you're getting bargains you're still paying quite a lot more in total and giving your self a /whole/ load more work.. even if it's just working out what goes where Smile.

Well the classic thing to do here is to get a crasher with a good engine, and a thrasher with a blown engine.

The alternative is to get a front ender and source a front end off of one being broken for spares.

However, going on personal experience and the experience of a few others, with VFR400s you get what you pay for. They are 15 years old now, a good selection of knackered ones around, and it is worth paying at least 1700 for a good condition one that has been used for commuting or long runs, with some kind of service history, even if its only receipts for service parts.

If you only want it for track days I know somebody who was selling a cat B NC30 needs new front end. Cant go back on the road without a new frame but would be ok for track bike. Cant renember if the frame is damaged on not.

Will find out more if you want.

Not quite that simple. Unless you use 3 major parts from the original bike the dvla will get it a Q. Assuming they find out Very Happy
