 |
|
Hey all,
Currently riding a Suzuki GZ125 Marauder, she is really sluggish and I fear needs alot of TLC when it comes to the engine..
Parked in my garden is my old Suzuki GN125, which is a Cat C write off (nothing at fault with the engine, only written off on cosmetic).. Engine runs like a dream, have test driven private land after getting her back...
My question is, would a engine swap be a simple task between these 2 bikes, and if I was to go ahead with it, what legal requirments do I have to follow? IE. notify DVLA?
Ta,
Matt. ____________________ Current : Honda XL Varadero 125

The only legal requirement you have is to update the log book with the new engine number. You might have to prove where you got it from, which would be easy for you since you own the donor bike.
As for the engine swap - yeah it's easy. So long as none of the engine bolts are stuck in solid, all you have to do it unplug all the wiring, remove the exhaust and chain, remove the carb and drop it out of the frame. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

In all fairness i had a five min go on a marauder once & found it to be very very sluggish. Think it's just a heavy, underpowered bike. ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.

Cheers for the info Pete
and _Iain_, I had read alot of mixed reviews about the bike before, but I mean mine really struggles.. Just about gets 43mph on a flat, crawls to 25mph on some slight hills.. I'm 5'10 and weight 14st.
One of my mates had the same bike, he's 6'2 and weighed 17st and still got 60 out of his...
Currently, cleaned air filter, cleaned spark, cleaned and tightened chain... which has made little to no difference.. ____________________ Current : Honda XL Varadero 125

Christ! definately some wrongness there.
Swap em over & list the duff engine on ebay, but put in small print at the bottom "ALL ITEMS SOLD AS SEEN, NO WARRANTY GIVEN OR IMPLIED"
Bet you'd get £100 at least ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.

Hmm, an engine 'swap' might be a long way around solving something that isn't a huge issue. What age is the GN? The early models didn't use the diaphragm type carb. Does sound like a running issue that could be fixed, sure fire way to know would be to do a compression test. If compression is good then is only leaves fueling &/or spark as the problem. If the compression is good I wouldn't go to the hassle of swapping an engine that's still dandy, far easier to swap over stuff like Carb, Coil and so on to diagnose what's faulty.
Has the GZ always run poorly since you've owned it or is it a recent problem that's appeared? ____________________ CBT: Pass 25/06/2011 Theory Test: Pass12/06/2012 Mod 1: Fail 08/07/2012
