I am booking my first service on my bike tomorrow (600 Miles) it's a yamaha wr125 and just curious of the price and what they do on the first service cheers, Also i have got some new mirrors with indicators on and was going to see if they can wire them up to my existing ones as they only came today, Could they try and class this as tuning and void my warranty with it being electrics? Cheers

My first service for my CBF was ~£100.

If you're asking them to fit them, they'll charge you for that. Not sure that it'd affect your warranty if the place you got you bike from is doing the work too. Would be a bit daft. Surely any work *they* do has a warranty too?

I was raped for my CBF first service on Tuesday Sad also had heated grips fitted, which they wired to permanent live. Evil or Very Mad

Job for the weekend to fit a relay. Apart from that did a proper job. Service was about £110

I was under the impression that Yamaha bikes had the first service for free and you only paid for the oil.

I know this was the case for my YZF. But yeah, typically it will normally cost around £100 give or take a few quid.

Have you seen this there's access to a switched live on the CBF.

Yamaha's first services are free labour, so you only pay for the oil! My intial service for my WR125 came in at about £25, with the following services at around £100

So why didn't the Honda Dealers do it. Doh!

Thanks for that

my first service was £6, did it myself, warranty isn't worth the price of a few services, and on a bike as reliable as a YBR I had no problems.

I had no problems getting my leaking fork replaced under warranty (whole fork, + new brake pads) even though I did the servicing myself on my scooter.

IMO it's only in a situation where something goes wrong with the engine itself, or something physically falls off, that you could get into trouble for not having documentation of servicing - oil / filter change being the minimum.

Just had my 600 service on my GSX-R600 - £108 at a main Suzuki dealer. Interesting that size of bike does not make much difference. Nice thing mate is that you can open her up a bit more now. Have fun! I just fitted heated grips on my DL650 - I wired straight to the battery so will have to take care not to leave it on! I would have expected a dealer to use an ignition feed; most do. I would complain and ask them to rewire!

yamaha quoted me around the £80-£90 mark for my first service on my ybr 125, however after reading through the owners manual it states that the first service is free on new machines, which they had scribbled out with a pen.
bike now has 5,500 miles and not been to yamaha yet, so much easier and cheaper to do it yourself.
why pay somebody 2 hours labour when they only spend 20 mins on your bike and the remainder reading the paper Rolling Eyes

Do it yourself, unless you want to keep warranty. Servicing a bike is something you should learn to do yourself really.

in all honesty, a service is mainly things you should be keeping an eye on anyway, things like wheel bearings, brake pads, tyre depth etc. Its only really an oil change, air filters and spark plugs that will need doing.

I agree that, ideally, we'd all get to know the basics of our bikes but if you are only paying for the oil why wouldn't one have it done? It gets the stamp in the book plus they'll run a quick well-baby check too.

I don't get why anyone would throw away a warranty they had actually paid for in the purchase price for the sake of a few services.

I am a qualified mechanic but during warranty always have services done by the main dealer. Now, my TA is ten years old so that I will do myself.

With regard to the mirror-indicators, if the mail dealer fits them (for a charge) you should have no warranty issues, but you should get a record that THEY did them. Smile

All in my VERY humble opinion, of course. Wink
