Mornin' all

Here we have a SP1:

Lavished in Ohlins and a PC3

Oh and Harris Performance...

A little history,

I picked the bike up of Seb off here on the 2rd November. Woke up on the 3rd, insured it and went to uni, did the usual, then thought "ill go show one of my mates", this was my mistake. It was only by change I changed my mind to go and see him. Had a nice ride down to his. Knocked on the door no answer so thought ah well turned around went back home, upon leaving his some work men where working (SHOCK HORROR) noticed they had a pneumatic cable across the road so thought ok go on the other side no problem...
Rolling Eyes

A car came round the corner forcing my back onto my side. Im already doing walking pace aiming to go over the squigly hose at a 90 degree angle to it to stop it rolling. First bump good second... not quite, the hose rolled and the bike wnt down. Needless to say i wasnt very happy. They workers just stood there gormless, picked up my bike and asked for a number to contact thier boss. ( i know through health and safty it shouldnt of been across the road as it was.) got a number all done.

Damage was...

Exhaust

Some nice shiny levers...

https://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn236/blackwolf141/P2260646.jpg

https://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn236/blackwolf141/P2260635.jpg

The rear sets have got me though, i think a gorilla has done them up. already broken one allen key attempting to undo them... also heads are slightly rounded, tried tapping with a hammer still no budging. anyone got any ideas?
https://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn236/blackwolf141/P2260636.jpg

Things i want to get done
Re-powder coat the rear wheel
Service the rear Ohlins
Service the bike
New pads all round
New front discs
Clean
Fit new parts

HRC Goodness....

Nice project you have there, always had a soft spot for the SP1's.

As for the stripped bolt soak it in WD (or preferably rust ease), let it penetrate then tap a star drive socket into it and hope that it comes undone. Always see the drill as the last resort.

You'll get sick to death of trying to keep the shock linkage clean soon enough, the scottoiler on that thing is a dirty little sod for sure Laughing

Unlucky with the off, Harris should be able to sort replacement parts for the rearsets, that'll work out a fair bunch cheaper than replacing them, kind of gets around those bolts too. G'luck Thumbs Up

Soak the bolts in penetrating oil for a day. Get a hex bit, ratchet and the longest bar you can on it. Get someone to help pushing the bit into the bolt head while you monkey on the long bar. It'll go off with a crack, and you'll think you've hurt yourself.
Then put some copper grease on when you put the new ones on.

penetrating oil is a myth.
use a manual impact driver. they cost about £5 and never fail.

Time to give it a very good scrub and clean!

The top bar of the swingarm should be mirror shiny. So should the lower engine casing (where the HRC logos are).

Nothing on that a bit of parafin wont clean up. or while you have the bodywork off just get local motorspares place and get engine de-greaser spray that stuff all over then get the watering can or low pressure jet wash out and rince it all off bike look clean and spick and spam then Smile also that cahin looks a bit iffy. maybe while wheels are out let it hang down and soak in some old engine oil to loosen any dodgy links..you dont want to get her sorted then take her out and chain snap on you lol

Seems to be quite a bit more corrosion than I'd expect from a Honda...but I guess they don't make them like they used to...or the bike's had a hard life.

Will be a good chance to ACF50 the crap out the thing once it's stripped down so much - after you've finished cleaning it anyway.

Good project.

And don't be fooled by a manual impact driver, they're good, but they're far from the answer to all stuck bolts.

Sometimes they've got so much torque they'll just round the head instantly. Or the one I bought has some fairly crappily made attachments which just broke.

Mine has a 1/2" drive, so I just stick my sockets on it normally. Penetrating oil still helps.

Certainly looks like the engine hasn't had a clean (or any protection) for a long time.

Did a partial strip down on mine today to get it cleaned, serviced and ready for summer, not a single problem with bolts. 2 out of around 30 were starting to corrode a little so I replaced them with new ones.

Blackwolf: If it's due new plugs soon, it's probably a good idea to do it now. The front is relatively accessible behind the oil cooler, but without a 40cm extension bar for the wrench, there's pretty much no clearance to get in there with anything whilst the nose fairing is still in place. Should be OK whilst you've got it off. The rear cylinder requires the tail fairing, seat and tank off (not just tilted, but unbolted), so worth doing that whilst you've got the bike stripped too.

It's not the corrosion, theres no rust at all, I put the allen key in and apply pressure, not budging, put a spanner on the end to give more leverage; The allen key was turning but the bolts where stuck. They have had 2 days worth of peneterant with liberal coating. Tired using the torques today still nothing, will try heating tomorrow.

Will also be applying lots of ACF50 Thumbs Up

Which tyres did you go for?

The mesh on the air intake is black as standard with larger 'holes'. Looks like someone put that silver job in there to suit the Castrol colours. May look better than the black.
