Finally got round to making some simple bar ends for the Bandit;

https://www.planetash.net/bandit/barends

Would like to make some a bit cooler/better but these will do for now.

Sweet! You did a nice job of that.

Nice to see the little machine being used. Why not add a pic of the lathe?

The black bit on the small end is a rubber bush that's compressed - and therefore expands and grips inside the hollow bars - when the bolt is tightened.

Spent ages going through all the pics on the pc (over 20,000!) trying to sort them out, and i know the original pics were on there somewhere. Anyway, took a few current ones of it in the meantime..

Thanks Smile The ally bar was 750mm x 30mm and about £20 inc p+p off of ebay. Still got plenty left obviously. The bolts were a few pence, and the rubber is just a bit of petrol pipe.

Exactly. It doesn't work quite as well as I'd hoped, the nut has nothing but friction to stop it turning, but it sort of works and they do tighten enough not to fall out, which is the main thing Very Happy

I had the same trouble with mine. I made a split collar and they hold in perfectly. The same thing they use for bicycle handlebars and seat posts.

Turn down about 40mm of your ally to the ID of the bar so that it's a close fit. Put a V-pointed lathe tool sideways in the tool holder and use it to score a V-groove down the length of the piece you just turned by holding the piece in the chuck and using the carriage to make the cut with the lathe not running. This is because there's a seam on the inside of the bar - if your bars don't have this then you don't need the groove.

Drill it through at 5mm then tap for M6. Now cut it diagonally at 30-45 degrees with a hacksaw, put one half in the lathe and drill it out 7mm. You can now fit it to the bolt, slide it in and tighten it up solid.

That lathe is absolutely awesome for things like that.
It's something I quite fancy for my workshop, but at the moment, my best mate Gaz is a tool maker, and has access to Lathes and Mills on a daily basis, so I can get 99% of things done. Only down side is waiting times. And of course, experimenting. I'd like to just get on a lathe, learn the ropes, then just see what I can make up. Fancy wheel spacers, Hubcentric wheel adapters, Axle spacers, Sprocket offset spacers, bar ends etc etc.

Good work on the bar ends, they look really OEM. Thumbs Up
